It's a properly Autumnal morning here, cool and breezy and feels properly Autumn-y
I'll have to see about getting some pics on the way to work.
So it did snow then Less? I'll admit I did do a snort of derision when the prog said it but I'll take that back. I don't remember 75/76 for I wasn't even a twinkle in my daddy's eye. Am I da yoof of this collective then?We didn't come here 'til 81 but I don't remember anything like that at home. If only I'd been on here last night cos I could've asked Cissie. Ah well.
Crawford Lake sounds v interesting Farway, that's going on my list. Himself is away dahn sarf this week in that salty/horse racing place, so I may please myselfBooo to your manky pears, is that the last of the blighters now though?
I agree with your Sunday Sermon Dusty, the value in being community-minded now isn't felt by young'uns or blow-ins cos people don't need to be reliant on each other to get by any more. I blame the internet + credit cards - anything you want to have or want to know is out there for a price. You don't need to know your neighbour through social circles for a share of his tractor come harvest time, you get your phone and your card out and throw money at the problem. You don't need to go out to the local village hall for a fete/watch a play cos everyone has t'Toob and FletNix etc. Why go out at all? There's no need of it now. You need to keep up with the online things so you can chat to your online friends about it, online. She said, to her online friends, online  Anyway, MrsD's dowry was a nippy 124 in blue and a dog? Not a bit wonder you married her
Good news that your plants have recovered 2p, those Norwegian brochures must have been a bit too expensive ha haa! I'm not sure I've ever seen witch hazel flowers before, that's a first for meWhy am I not surprised you were abroad climbing fig tress in your yoof?
OT cool today, the Feels like is currently 8' and will top out at 15' they say. Dry all day though, possibly, and v breezy with it.
I asked Cissie if it was to be a harsh winter cos of all the berries out now and I got told off. "Have you no sense in your head? How do you not know they're a sign of what's been, they're not a sign of what's to come!" So there you goShout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.5 -

I can recall where I was living and working, but that's about it.
And, rather neatly, coming full circle, Ladas were based on the old Fiat 124:"The company began producing the VAZ-2101 in 1970, which was a more rugged version of the Fiat 124 sedan. The car was given heavier steel body panels and strengthened components, which improved reliability on bumpy roads and in the harsh winters of the Soviet Union.[7][8]" (Wiki)Farway said:Had the last two red pears for lunch, honesty, one looked fine but once I cut into it the mank had started, so only 50% useable flesh. The other was OK, but grainy.
I do hope yours are better, Dusty.Mine, like yours, showed no sign of “ready” but parted easily from the tree,Looking at the boozers' blob-ometer, it will be nigh impossible to escape the rain showers today, and they look heavy. It's just as well I decided to ignore the forecast and put in 2.5 hours of log sawing yesterday, when it didn't rain after all.
After 2p's nice comment about the rudbeckias, I decided to make an oil painting of them....mainly because they're not that good, close up!
Just say, "No!"6 -

So there you goI must side with Cissie there!Your saying, "You'll not miss what's coming to ye" also strikes a chord, though. I notice things happen at the right time, if we let them.
This doesn't rule out free will, of course, which will foul things up nicely for those who are too bloody-minded, impatient, or easily led.
We must all hold our nerve and believe Rottery Acres will come in the fullness of time!Just say, "No!"5 -
Quick post. Things wot I have seen on my way to work.
We've had RoseLillies, I now give you Bramblleia -… and a sign of weather past -…. and that plant in a compost bag leaning against a fence in a car park is doing rightly -Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.5 -
Lovely brambles, YBE. I've been brambling this morning and a lot of them have already gone (flattened grass, so human activity), some were squishy (I came home looking like I'd committed murder), some were still wee red bullets and some were just right. I picked a tubful, which I was pleased about, because at first glance my usual haunt for brambles looked like it had been decimated. I'm undecided whether to go brambling somewhere else later, but the weather might make the decision for me.
Did we identify your mystery car park plant?? It looks like it might be a squash?? Says she who has never grown one in her life. Have you thought about lifting it and taking it home??
I think your other pic is pyracantha??
Nothing much happening here. I've been offered another interview for later this week, but probably won't accept it. I've got one more application pending and if I'm offered an interview I will definitely go for it as it's more my thing. If I don't get an interview, I'm going to put job hunting on pause until next year.
Hope everyone is well - I've been reading, but have now forgotten what everyone has said.
OT - thundery showers today and feeling Autumn-y here too - 1st September already...'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Sunshine right now, but wet expected, hopefully I can get out & pick the last of my early apples before they become windfalls. There are not loads left, but may as well be in my freezer than rotting on the ground.YoungBlueEyes said:So it did snow then Less? Insert PP slide show with nice pie chart here.Lots of Crawford Lake to follow up, surprising what there is on R4 during the night, mostly twaddle, but some rare interesting items.Yes, all red pears gone, I still have the French hard green ones in the fridge, very unripe ATMCars, I've owned Imp, Lada Riva saloon & a 128, baby to 124, 128 was blue and was a cracker, it was also firm's car so ideal 'cos I never had to put a hand in my pocket except for holiday petrol. The other two best not mentioned in polite company, lest swearing starts.Nice pics YBE, mixed though, my blackberries are now gnarled & wizened, yours still ripening. But my pyracantha is only just colouring up.The plant in compost bag, cucumber? It's tipping down now, that's the apple picking probably skipped for today. I'll just stick to stewing those already collected, job for this afternoon. Plus catch up on GW, maybe.Numerus non sum4 -
Your garden continues to be a beautiful success Dusty
I admire it from afar as I couldn't cope with the hard work you and Mrs D must put in. I'm surprised you have the energy for walking on your day off.
Interesting pictures Bluey, are the photos of plants because you haven't got time to get rummaging in the soil yourself nowadays?
The heather should still be out in Scotland when you're there.
Poppy you seem to be well sought after by employers with all the interviews you're getting. I hope the right one comes along. I vividly remember doing the same back in the day. A miserable process and then when you get the job it's for some other reason than the skills you sweated over 🥴
Hope you get out for your apples Farway. Are these eaters ie squirrel fodder or cookers that will stay safe from wildlife.
Not much happening today. Gammy leg etc+other stuff.
I seem to have some tomatoes at last..... The ones that should be big are tiny and those that should be tiny are big. Go figure 😵💫
Weather very cool, showery but almost a sunset tonight. First in ages.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Am wondering whether that plant in a bag could be a Luffa/loofah - looks like the one I tried to grow two or three years ago in greenhouse as my "one experimental plant a year" (to prove to DD that loofahs are not made of pink/blue plastic) - it didn't get beyond the flowering stage before heading north, might have made it this year (in a greenhouse, doubtful outside here, or where you are Bluey!) with the extra heat...7

I'll keep a careful eye on Compostbag Carparkii to see what it produces (if anything) Must admit I thought it was some breed of a squash, even though I've never grown one before. Not sure I've even eaten one, well not knowingly anyway. Dunno if it's a cucumber or a loofah either *shrug* TBC....
Ooh I really like your rudbeckia painting Dusty! Different is that. "Boozer's blob-ometer"The bands of rain always look like they''re coming up to me from over you and 2p's way.
Did you get out brambling again PP? The brambleias were the only ones of any size I've seen round here. Yep the orange and red berries are pyracantha (pic taken a couple of days ago) and they did look good with the 2 colours together. Good for you holding out for the job you actually want, it's diminishes your soul going to work resentfullyNo I'd not though of taking the mystery plant home, it'd weigh a tonne and it's all interwiggled in the fence so too damaging to remove it. Sorry no I mean pinching things is wrong!
I used to like R4 during the night too Farway, so much so I had World Service as my all day main station on the kitchen radio. I can't remember now why I changed it back, not jolly enough I think.
Aye I've nowt worth showing in my garden 2p, so I take interesting or on-topic pics when I'm out and about. My gardening = weeding in the mornings before I come on here and that's itThe only thing worth looking at in my garden atm are my Swish Roses but they're not interesting really. Everything else is dull or dying. Well except my apple tree but I'm waiting on good light to get a pic of that. They're big and red and lovely looking but they want to stay on so.... good job I've patience galore... The Scotland forum you recommended is a gold mine, those folks are properly knowledgeable
I'm building a trip in my head, but I really need to start making decisions and booking things really.
One experimental plant a year Less, that sounds good fun. Any outstanding winners/losers? I always thought loofahs were like sponges in that they grew in warm water oceansWell at least I don't look ignorant
OT it's still Autumn hereIt didn't rain yesterday, despite Tusky promising funder and lightning and all sorts from about 1600. Teasing swines. It was mild in the aft though when the sun came out. Similar today, possibly. Currently 12'c but up to 20' later, perhaps. The Feels Like is a good few degrees below that mind. If it gets any colder I'll have to start thinking about putting a duvet in the cover!
Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.6 -
As predicted, there was no chance of missing the shower blobs yesterday, and little time between them. I was restricted to completing a big river order, mending a leaky loo and exhuming much-too-large plants from the cold frames. Some 'cuttings,' like the penstemons, and wallflowers, had grown into large, woody plants, too big to transplant successfully. I chopped a few up and turned them back into cuttings again!Farway said:Nice pics YBE....my blackberries are now gnarled & wizened, yours still ripening. But my pyracantha is only just colouring up.The plant in compost bag, cucumber?I thought it was smart of pp and Bluey to ID the mystery plant as a curcubit, despite never having grown one of that family. Now, we'll have to wait and hope it produces something before.....well, you know what!
Love the names Compostbag carparkii and Brambleia, too!!
I've never grown a loofah, Less, but we once grew squirting cucumbers for the kids for a year or two. Great fun, they were!

So long as the hedges are cut, we can try to sort the rest out later. Sadly, walking has to be rationed, as my knees need time to recover, but there might be a couple more 'challenges' before the day length and weather restrict us to the local, more travelled paths again.
OT: A calmer, kinder morning today, with an east wind that's due to do a 180 just after lunch.Surprisingly, that's supposed to end the drizzle and give us sunshine, before more heavy rain sweeps in overnight. It's still pretty dry under the hedges, and there's no sign of the stream yet. My guess is it'll take a month of this on and off rain to get that going.
Some hydrangeas here are still putting on a show. One that's way now past its best is this one:I'm posting the photos before they become totally outdated!Just say, "No!"7
