Noticed today they are growing ,stems about 1 inch out of the soil ,do you think it is too early to put them outside yet? We live in the NE of England and still get an occasional frost5 -
Dive, just because they say you can, doesn't mean you should. Even if you left it until the end of March they'd catch up with whatever was sown now.Based on what you said 2P, I decided to move a clump of them to another less stepped on area. We'll see how they like it...[ they'd better like it or else]Farway, OHs mum bought her car back off the insurance people when it was written off for needing a new bumper. Even allowing for getting a new bumper and then selling it after that she made more money than what she paid for it before the accident.wm, I got one for free from freecycle. Won't hurt to ask. Well done on sorting a workspace. I'd like one of those,,,,preferably indoors though
lovely sky!
dusty, well done on getting some child labour going. Kind of lovely noble deer look too .I feel like I've been playing hookey all day. went tot the allotment, it was bitter cold but actually sunny so it was fun. I removed the wire from the keyhole bed and pushed in sticks and started weaving whatever I had to hand on it. The my hay turned up so that got moved and then piled up, thee's loads leftover so that'll be put on top when it collapses and put along the edge too. It smelled beautiful. Just need more cardboard now. the disgusting red stuff on top of the keyhole bed is actually our councils composted food waste and I must say, it's absolutely disgusting. It wasn't so bad wen it first went down but now it's been rained on it's gone a weird red colour and smells awful. Do not recommend, no stars. I also sowed some parsnip seeds, two varieties, Gladiator and White Gem. Put some more onion sets in a bit next to some jerusalem artichokes and weeded some bits.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8 -
That looks intriguing Taff!On the subject of crows, ours were suddenly in evidence cawing loudly early this morning too - only three, that I could hear though... They are rarely seen or heard in the near vicinity, possibly because we have a large gang of jackdaws who occupy a nearby oak tree and chapel gable end (and occasionally our gable end too, though that often seems to end in disaster...

Bitter cold this morning, feels like - 3 they say . Feels to me like stay in bed and keep warm.
Ive just worked the long weekend so washing is in and hopeful to get on the line as there’s no rain forecast 🤨 looks like the snow is up the Yorkshire side and Scotland.
My erigeron is very promiscuous,it seeds all over, including on next doors drive which is cobbles😳. The large patch at the front next to the house has actually over wintered well staying green just the bottom where the snow was going brown. The ones at the back soon go brown but recover in the spring.
Dusty , the deer is my favourite it looks like it’s just heard a noise and looks alert.
Just wondering if I should feed my tulips?I never have and the pot is quite small. I know slapped wrist for me.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Very frosty but sunny morning, a nice change from grey, and forecast is with milder yet to comeDustyevsky said:Can we not say dwarf dahlias on here, then?
Oh, apparently we can, so maybe I've missed a joke somewhere along the way.
Disney went DEI overboard and the dwarves were replaced by DEI rich Magical Beings. This sparked a lot of derision & mockery, not helped by "star" complaining of being awakened by a kiss from Prince Charming without Snow White's prior permission and thus a stalker. The film descended into farce from then on & has yet to get a release date.$200 million and still counting has been spent on umpteen reshoots, including a reverse ferret on dwarves which are back in but CGI and not human ones, generating complaints from real dwarf human actors! If it rains, get on YT and have a look at all the videos about it, makes the DEI Bud Light advert look amateur c--k up
Back OT,wort said:Just wondering if I should feed my tulips?I never have and the pot is quite small. I know slapped wrist for me.If you have it, Blood, fish & bone is ideal, good for all bulbs to build them up for next year. But whatever you have to hand will do.FWIW Home Bargains have offer https://home.bargains/product/728f3580-c9c2-40fc-a855-a700f4f8a6fa/doff-fish-blood-and-bone-ready-to-use-fertiliser-2kg?sc=605Don't be too disappointed if your tulips vanish after a year or so, most seem to love dying out, exceptions are the dwarf specie ones. Here's hoping my erigeron is very promiscuous, and seeds all over.Taff, that council stuff does look odd, let's hope it is not as bad as it appears & smells. One of those things, good idea but not always ideal in practice, being food waste, one can only wonder what processes it must have through before the finished product.Reminded me of a report about composted sewage waste, lovely brown stuff, until it rained & became diarrhoea likeRocket has been sown, in pot, on the window sill. Never grown that before, let's hope I like the taste. If sun keeps up I'll get out for a meander around the garden, surely something must be coming into life out there? Checking the snake's heads following PP reports.twopenny said:Farway, what colour are the catkins on the Cob nut? Red would be nice but yellow is still outstanding and cheery on a winters day.The Cob catkins are yellow. I wanted red to brighten up the volunteer car park corner the bush will be in. There is a young Nigra elderflower near there, so I'm hoping for a Red Corner.Just had e-mail update, I have Filbert as requested.

Pics of snakes head growth, Farway (easier to see in a pot than in the ground, I would think)...
The second pic has got more shoots coming up if you zoom in.
I've also got this pot of bulbs that I dug up a few months ago - I never got round to replanting them because of my vertigo, but they've decided to grow anyway...
OT - another freezing cold day.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Staggered up to 6c and there was less mist. Sort of brighter.Poppy, I've done that too. I just plonked them in and they grew roots but I left them in to recover and fed.Saw some chunky pots of herbs for £4.99. Better value than the garden centre as they were hardened off and large. However the thyme which tempted me was tough and not much fragarance. I had to check it wasn't a hebe or something. Good for decoration though.Been out for a drive as leg wouldn't work and it's darn cold. Very few wild animals seen. Reckon they were all somewhere sheltered and warmer. But the Snowdrop spotting was a good one. The edges of lanes were thick in places with lovely full flowers.Didn't get much of a photo from the car and low light so maybe when it's warmer but it was a joy to see even if everything else seems smashed and bare from the original storm. Great chunks of hedgerow ripped out, lots of trees still laying around. Thanks for the links Farway, it gave me something of a chuckle or despairing cough. What a load of balony!I'm surprised that they didn't change Snow Whites name too.

Sorry, can't keep up. Mrs Dusty and I have had the GC for 2 days now.
There's just one more to go, before their parents return, and we sink back into our usual routine.
The GC haven't been naughty; just loud and confused by a clock with Roman numerals. Last night, the same enquiry was made about rising at 00.50, 03.45 and 04.55.
When I finally staggered into the kitchen at 07.00 they were both fast asleep!
There are definite signs of sunshine in your lottie picture, taff. That keyhole bed will have your neighbours guessing, for sure!
We were inspired today to seek some of that magical stuff shining on your plot. So, with a promise of 7c, we set off for the coast......only to find the tide low and a searing wind travelling down the estuary. Brrr!
However, we also witnessed that bright yellow ball thing for a while, and the car recorded 6c at one point, so all was not lost. Indeed, with spies reporting a newly extended play area in a fairly sheltered place, we managed to save the day, if not much vitamin D.....
That was a great explanation of the wokery surrounding the remake of Snow White, Farway.I'm well aware of DEI, but somehow I've not come across it in that context. So far as I understood things, it's claimed that brand has been peddling thinly disguised satanic stuff to kids for some time, though my ad-blocker won't allow me to actually see any of it.
I also noticed the drifts of snowdrops as I steered around the potholes today 2p.Down at Instow, where they think they're posh, there are some very pretty verges, full of crocuses, daffs, primroses and fritillaries, like yours pp. I'm glad someone cares.
Tomorrow 13c......really? If so, it's the Moors and damming streams."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
Taff that is a lot of work you've done and you're well on the way to having the whole plot doneNo reason you can't plant rows around the keyhole instead of straight. That would be spectacular!Farway, back on the GW and there was Monty sowing salad crops for winter.Have you got a tamping tool for your compost of exactly the right size? Seems a bit twee to me.Dusty, also read about Carol Kliens nursery closing because of a new neighbour. That wasn't you was it

Yesterday stayed bright and breezy, so the washing dried. It was a bitter wind and the walk from SM was an eye watering one. Weirdly when I went for my appointment at 2pm it was still freezing wind but when I cam out the wind had dropped and it was a lovely walk back.
Farwsy I do have blood, fish, bone the very one you mentioned from the same place.😉 if I’m putting it on now though when the shoots are already up would I mix with some compost and sprinkle on top? I tend to use it when I’m planting so it’s mixed in the hole before I plant in.it. Laughed at the Snow White comment, I remember my aunt taking me to see it when I was a young one.
Today is looking grey and windy minus 2 at the moment with rain possibly on the way. I’m going to GC the mega kind with butchers and clothes and Uncle Tom Cobbley. So possibly more of a coffee and chat than actual plants.
Taff, well done the allotment is shaping up.👏🏻
