One of those managed to read the scrolls with AI"So what do these passages say? They appear to be a philosophical discussion of life’s pleasures, including music and food, though the papyrology team is still studying the results."Reading between the lines, it seems they've been translating Herculaneum's equivalent of GQ magazine.
Could be worse, I suppose. That longish novel by Proust, with over 3 million words, springs to mind.

Whereas my joke evidently fell as flat as the fence...Anyway, I appreciated it.
Altogether a very 'bleak' day here, with no significant weather to report, and so quiet, I began thinking it must be Sunday. It didn't matter; Mrs Dusty and I have been doing the quiz I've devised for the garden club to see how long it all takes. We only came to metaphorical blows a couple of times, so I suppose it'll do.
If the beer dreg diviners are accurate, it looks like tomorrow morning may be the only time we have sunshine this coming week, so I'll have to be up and out early to catch a natural dose of D."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
Well really you've answered your own question gb, it's only boredom. If you don't give dogs a job they'll assign themselves one and you almost certainly won't like it. See 2p's story about her one with the stick
When you see the signs he's about to hit his boredom threshold, do something that distracts him. Literally anything else, just to break the chain he's forming in his head - happy/bored/chew blanket. Have a few minutes in the garden, or give him a good brush, or do some work on his commands. Not letting the chain form is the key. I've just thought - isn't he only a young'un? Might be teething, in which case give him something you do want him to chew when you see the 'I'm about to chew my blanket' signs. Not a K0ng, until he gets his full teeth through and settled. I always used one of daddy's big old thick socks, tied in a knot. I hope that helps
Edit - have look for a fellah called Cesar Millan. He really is a Dog Whisperer. Old school, grew up on a farm, has a natural way with dogs. Where The Paw Man is for more difficult issues, Cesar is your every day stuff.
The reason I didn't think my moon shot pics were very good is they don't look like they did in real life Dusty. There were so many stars out and the moon was a beautifully clear crescent, but my phone was have been drunk. Ah well. I love your log mossy + licheny logs, I'd leave them there for something to look atImagine that wee car being modern, and the prices on them! Definitely into how muckin fuch territory
IIRR the inside was a creamy white 2p. Lovely looking wee thing it was.
Thanks for the look-up link Farway, I'll keep that on my phone. You used to be able to use We'll Buy Your Car (or something) website and it'd give you a value and description, but then it started asking for a proper email address to send the answer to so I gave it up. I'm continually being amazed at the things we can accomplish now - reading 200 year old burnt scrolls is pure wondrous eh. Love it.
Less your joke gave me the inspiration for my joke - I was standing on your shoulders, so to speak
Congrats Luna on making the front page. Quite right too, that pic is very pleasing
Lots of bird noise out there this morning, mostly blackies and robins but my song thrush is persevering. It's lovely and mild at 5'c, but a bit damp and misty with it. Wind to come later, they say. Oh and spotted on timeanddate this morning we have a new weather descriptor - when it's not rain or drizzle it is "sprinkles"I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
YBE - sadly the boredom tends to hit when I'm not around! He does have other things to chew (and he's got his adult teeth now). Lots of rope toys and a couple of squeaky/rustly toys (all proper, safe dog toys that are for labs and similar, so nothing he can destroy and damage himself with) that stay in his pen. He gets a proper bone most days for 15-30 mins when I'm there to supervise (otherwise he'll eat the whole thing and then puke). He has a frozen carrot once a day, a filled kong (which keeps him busy for AGES) - either puppy size or adult size now he has big teeth, although mostly he's licking it and bouncing to play with afterwards, and lick mats. The kongs/lick mats are taken from his food allowance (as are any other snacks or treats he might get - charcoal biscuits are essential, particularly when he has bones!).
Unfortunately I can't be with him 24/7 as I have to work/sleep/do stuff in other rooms - but I'm working from home so he gets a lot more breaks that he would otherwise.
Weather is looking better today - solar is generating which is a bonus. I've got trees to tie to their supports and butternut squash to pressure cook for dog food. And house plants to repot (they're all getting a soak as they're suffering from the central heating, but only the most urgent ones will be repotted). And compost to move to the greenhouse.8 -
2degrees and north easterly wind.
Evening out was more enjoyable than I expected, trains were on time and although it was wet ,(not forcast rain) we didn’t get caught in any.
Interesting Dusty😉 I can’t say I mind wether people have been to the moon or not. What’s happening here is enough for me. As Farways reading of papyrus indicates ,are we getting too clever for our own good?YBE I have seen the same model colour car around here too. I was fooled thought it was an oldie. Cute though.
Booked my summer holiday, had enough of this cold now, needed something to look forward to. So expect a heatwave here in June when I fly off 😜Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Just a quickie before I clear off to DS & GC café. At least it's not grey & dull, even patches of blue sky. Grey arrives later, so they say.Apart from looking at overpriced plants in GC, zero gardening for me today, unless some splendid bargain appears at GC, but the best I can hope for is gone over and fading daffs or snowdrops this time of yearActually, thinking about it, passed it snow drops would be good, sort of “in the green"Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

I do mind when the media are used to tell lies and mislead unsuspecting people, but I can't say any more than that here.
I liked the stuff Farway's decoders did. It serves to remind us, people in the past had the same sort of concerns and thoughts as us. When I was a kid, doing history, I used to think, "Those guys in the olden days were all bonkers!" That was bad teaching to blame.
I hope we have a heatwave in June too, or at least some decent weather. I might then get a few squash into the ground on time, and not find some footpaths still like quagmires, as they were in '24.YoungBlueEyes said:Congrats Luna on making the front page. Have a good time Farway. Hope you find something, perhaps left because it's been too cold for people to buy?But good cakes and scones, interesting conversation and people watching are a good comfortGreenbee have you thought of starting some agility training or scent training? I know my collie/spaniel needed to use his brain. I saw a guy training his dog on a walk with a scented bit of rag that he threw in the trees for retreival and he loved that. Also chasing seagulls. I commuted (with the dog) so didn't have time for agility but I think he wouldnt have been interested. He learned quickly and then was bored. But there's all sorts to learn. Remember 'Assistance dogs know 90 different commands' as I used to shout at my terrier spaniel. She took no notice. Thanks for the promise of a heatwave Wort.........you couldn't go a bit sooner could you, like next week?Well Dusty is doing better than me I guess. I overslept - all the hassle I've been dealing with, so missed the lighter bits. It almost looked bright for half an hour but it's grey cloud again now.Still dragged itself up to 4, maybe 5c with a light southerly. Feels wonderful after the last few days. The little birds are around but none seem too overjoyed so I guess they know we're not out of the woods yet.

2p - right now he's still learning to walk nicely on the lead
Also recall and walking to heel and things that will make him socially acceptable. I may then start him on gundog training, but TBH it depends on my own energy levels. I did wonder whether he could be trained as an assistance dog to tell me when I'm overdoing things and stop me. But I can't see that happening given he's been the cause of today's lack of energy - somehow he managed to get something stinky on his neck, so has had to have a bath. A cold one, using the hose, which doesn't seem to bother him - he thinks it's a great game 🙄
I'll just have to keep relying on wearables and apps for that.7 -

We lost the sunshine around 14.00, so as it's only about 5c, it feels cold now.
Apart from collecting logs, and posting a card, I'm done outside.
The birds have been very active, too. Great clouds of corvids at high altitude, and the feeders occupied 90% of the time. I have some photos, but most seem to be out of focus.

Indeed it did come out nice this morning, bright and mild light southerly by todays standards. But for once the forecast was right. Clouded over wind changed NE and rain so it's been like much later in the day all afternoon.Added to the compost bin, looked at jobs and thought it's wet and muddy and dark. NO enthusiasm at all.
