Awful weather - typical Brits talk

It's not fair 2p, you have all these nice, cheap plant stalls and DIY shops with plants and we have nothing here at all.
There was a fairly decent self-service plant stall here last year, but since I closed it....nothing!

Spoke to the lady I spoke to before about the peacock. She came running out the house to flag me down. She said the owner from the smallholding had gone round to the communal garden at the back of me, and retrieved the errant peacock on the evening . Apparently missing for 4 days. As a thank you for informing him he gave her a dozen eggs. The lady gave me half a dozen of these lovely brown eggs, as she said without me, the peacock would never have been found. The peacock is now in solitary confinement till it knows where home is. There's a peahen too, so maybe in the future there'll be 'pea-chicks' It's nice to see such a variety of fowl so close to a built up area. |Here it's a novelty. How long they'll last, I suppose , is down to how long they stay a curiosity, rather than a nuisance.

@mad_spaniel How nice that the lady passed the eggs on to you!
I've been potting on cosmos and potting up strawberry runners. I'm getting short of small pots for seedlings, compost and gravel trays. I did empty one seed tray of salad seedlings into a planter, as I remembered that I had a frame, fleece and greenhouse cover for it. Fingers crossed that will enough to get them through the next few days. And that the things in the greenhouse won't be too upset by the sudden drop in temperature.
I've realised I need more gravel trays as well as more small pots. And more compost. But I'm not about to brave homebase on a weekend, let alone a bank holiday!2 -
Sun's out and looks tempting but the thermometer tells the truth, it's very cold out at the moment, seedlings are staying safe in the conservatory for a few more hours I thinkgreenbee said:I've realised I need more gravel trays as well as more small pots. But I'm not about to brave homebase on a weekend, let alone a bank holiday!I think there was some trade off by being allowed to open Good Friday but not Easter Sunday where previously they was closed both days? Not that I go anywhere on Bank Holiday weekends, Covid or not, too busy for me when I can go any old time I chooseI have a couple of runner beans just poking their tops through in the propagator, very quick, I thought the seeds look large & plump. T & M as it happens.Still no sign of my "bargain" bare root fruit trees from them though, probably drying out in a sorting office over EasterEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

We got married on an Easter Sunday.
It was partly to help the vicar temporarily filling-in for the one who was drying-out, to save him an extra day's work, since he'd be there anyway. Also, the church was specially decorated for Easter and we saved a fortune on flowers....very MSE!
On the negative side, although it was later in April, we froze because they'd turned the heating off to save the flowers, it blew a gale and the following week when we returned from honeymoon, it snowed.Looks nice out there and we may walk later, but not expecting more than 10c in a sheltered spot.Tomorrow it really goes downhill!1 -

Went for a very pleasant circular walk. It mattered not that part of it was the same one I did last Tuesday, especially as we went clockwise for a change. Shot this view from the top of a motte and bailey castle mound. As you can see, we are still not very green here, but the sunshine was wonderful.

Lovely photo @Davesnave, looking closely I can see your trees are just beginning to show a hint of green very like ours hereabouts, a bit more sun and things should really get moving now.
I took this photo this morning because this tree simply refuses to give up.
I looked back in my photos and found this one I took of it the first day it fell which was the 8th Feb this year during the floods.

It's always so sad to see a tree uprooted. There was one here that I'd known since a child, the last of 3 in a group and it came down right by a cafe but no one was hurt and no damage to the property. Amazing. The Blackthorne is magnificiently thick and luminous with white blossom. the gorse outstandingly yellow and the PussyWillow thick with yellow pollen covered fluffy bits. It's been really beautiful in the sun and warmth. I think they must appreciate the large chunk of fresh air from lack of traffic for half a year. I did take photos which I'll post tomorrow.Been second coating the paint and late repotting because the plant was desperate, then, because it all looked smarter decided to mow the lawn. Nerve pain again and all my own fault. But the garden looks good if I don't.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

That's a sad end for a chestnut, goldfinches. They haven't an easy time of it now; most being ravaged by the moth by late summer. Your sky looks so much more natural ...what on earth happened to mine?A drizzly start here today and not much planned for outdoors except potting-on in the polytunnel. Looking ahead, it seems we may be back to more clement conditions by Thursday or Friday, but still with the worry of overnight frosts. T'was always thus!I shall be looking out for the first swallows and martins next weekend and planning more walks in woodland. It won't be too long before bluebells now.1
