pink_poppy said:It's chilly here too, Farway. My first thought when looking outside this morning was urgh. It had obviously been raining overnight and it just looked dreich.
Hope your grapes taste deliciousThey do, but waiting four years does add to the pleasure. I had three reasonable sized bunches and two could do betters. Photo once sorted out. Also found six runner beans, my guess is these are the last of the year so will taste excellent.I'll check the sweet corn laterMeanwhile, here is another one of my self sown Shoo Fly, showing the seeds pods. Never tried but supposed to dry quite fancy as decoration:Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8 -
Hmmmm started off chilly to shivery and had a trip to the Repair Shop for my bits to be sorted then I was half way to the moors and the sun was shining so I bought a pasty and went off for a couple of hours - which turned into 5It was almost fab, the low light and scenery was amazing but I forgot, don't go on a Saturday. What a load of numpties, much like lights and night skies they drove right into the ponies watering hole then crowded them so they scooted. The deer were scared off by the number of cars and idiots and the brids I was trying to photograph too. End of rant.Farway what lovely colours, it's a facinating plant.Bluey, hows the lack of real tea going? I can stand almost anything as long as I get proper tea and coffee.Poppy, amazing shots! Fancy being able to capture the Milky WayLess, loved those comedy photos. Wish I could see that sort of humour........I'll keep looking.Dusty, yup, got the deluge and wind. Fine today and apparantly deluge and wind tomorrow. Heating on an hour morning and evening alreadySo the upshot, I didn't get home to repair paint the furniture, repot, mow or dig turf. But I am sunkissed, totally relaxed and had a lovely timeSo here's the totally ungarden related photo from today for the ahhhhhhhhh factorAnd anyone know about Fungi? Perhaps another thread?

@twopenny - no idea on the fungi id. much as I love going on fungi id forays, I'm very reticent when it comes to mushrooms. For example, we have had puffballs emerging over the summer here - my OH loves them - he tells me to stop staring at him as he consumes his fry up, (as if I'm thinking he'll keel over).I would like to try your recipe for chutney posted on 23/09 but got a bit confused on part 1 & 2 as to when sugar is added. I've no doubt it is me being dim!!!
Fashion on the Ration 2025 37/666 -
Apple Chutney
1lb Apples
1 med onion
½ clove garlic
¼ lemon
¼ mustard seed
¼ pt vinegar
-----------------------------
4oz Rasins
¼ tbs ginger
½ tsp salt
4 ½ oz brown sugar
Bring first part to boil then simmer for 1hr or less.
Add 2 and simmer till thick
Mince apples onions tomatoes, put in a pan with all other ingredients except sugar
Bring to the boil and simmer for 20mins
then Stir in sugar until dissolved.
Simmer until chutney is thick and no excess liquid on top
Pour into jars & seal
About 2-3lbs
Does that help Alicef? Basically stew everything, then boil , then stir in sugar.Though got to say my last lot were stewed apples a couple of days before and I just bunged the whole lot in and it worked fineJams and chutneys are very forgiving as long as the fruit/veg is cooked to soft and the right amount of sugar is added.
It's not like sponges and such that need perfect timing and no expensive ingredients.........good luckMy neighbour used to make it and I didn't like it because it was too runny but when I made some - love it with Cheddar Cheese sandwiches.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Just as well this year!

pp I haven't totally given up sugar/carbs in my new lifestyle choices, I'm just eating more carefully. I'm not a full on proper diabetic, and I've no way of testing myself like a Type1 has so it's all a bit hey-day go-day tbh. When I see those bawz I'll lift some 'for himself' and make sure I get a gobful when he's eating them
I meant to ask after your sweetcorn Farway cos they've appeared in the shops now. Fingers crossed they're like the grapes - worth the waitAre you for drying some Shoo Fly flowers then? String them together and hang them off your dressing table mirror? Or round your kitchen like herbs/copper pans..?
I've not given up tea or coffee 2p, himself would be in fear for his life if I cut it out completely! I've cut it right back to one coffee in the morning and a tea mid aft. That's it. I like your pony pic, still enough to get a good reflection too, lovelyGrr to ignorant tourists, I take it you're not allowed to shoot them then, no? Mind shooting people would mess with your sun-kissed bliss so best not. Probably.
Ohh yes an artistic pic of buckets of toms would be good alice
Cloudy and mild here today, all day, possibly. I really need to get some gardening done, the weeds are properly going for it now, and much as I'd like to leave them as ground cover I'd better get rid for I don't actually know what they are ha haa! We went to Posh Town yesterday for shoes for himself and ended up coming home via the beach. Bit busy but not too bad, and the sea was fab. Tide nearly all the way in, lots of big waves and energy and a good strong smellGood job I don't live nearer or I'd be there all day.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
The beach. I was trying to capture all the textures and colours - the sound the sea made as it retreated back over the pebbles would be perfect on one of those soundscape tapes you used to get to fall asleep to. I could honestly have stood there for hours.Bliss yes, sun kissed no. It’s really wasn’t warmI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8

(Lifted from the Have a Look at This thread.)In a word, "Yes!" That's not negotiable.Mind you, if a whole house could be found in the other Circus, we'd almost certainly get a pretty good garden, though some of them point the 'wrong' way, like north east.

Farway said:I hope Divinity works for you & Mrs D, but at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you didn't pay full price for the seeds, which makes most things taste better.Definitely. Thanks to you, I've not spent £20 yet to buy about £58 worth of seeds for next year.pink_poppy said:I was draped over the car looking up at the Milky Way - I just hope the neighbours didn't see meI'm broad-minded, but did you have to nick Farway's hibiscus too?
I thought that might be an easy fungus to ID, 2p, but I'm not so sure now.Good spot. The only ones I could show at present are all mushy.
So.....did I see the Aurora last night, or was it just the lights of the town 10 miles north of here? This was an exposure of 30 seconds, and I think the colours are all wrong. No neighbour's lights, anyway!
