The only answer I can think of is to use a VPN on the phone/device which will ensure the IP remains the same
As has already been suggested here, here, here and here.

This is exactly the right answer. Typically a home broadband connection will only change IP address when the modem is reset.
A carrier (provider) who uses something called CGNAT (typically mobile broadband providers) reuses the same IP addresses for multiple requests and so your IP can change between page requests, indeed during a page request, and the bank software doesn't like that. It looks like your session has been hijacked by someone else and for your security the session is terminated so you get thrown back to the login page.
Which is eactly what I said on this thread on page 2 back in early October last year.

I found 2 good fixes for this problem, that don't involve having to sign up and pay for a VPN

The first is to check the box saying "I am using a Public Computer or Shared device" when you sign in - I just tried this and it worked for me.

The 2nd is to download the Chrome Extension Windscribe, which gives you 2GB free per month (plenty as long as you remember to turn it off after you logout of Santander) and gives you a fixed IP address
  • It's 2023 and still having this problem. VPN works, but hoping there's a more straightforward solution.

I appreciate this thread. I have Smarty internet and hadn't realised this was the reason I keep being thrown out the Santander/Cahoot website.

Does this problem occur with other mobile networks? Does it occur with other financial websites?

Recently switched to connecting my PC via my mobile to the internet. Using a MOTO G54 5G on Vodaphone with a strong indoor signal.

I wasn't aware that this was an issue until reading this thread - so I did a quick test after confirming my IP address with whatismyipaddress.com

    1. connected via USB Tethering - logged onto Santander and viewed my account switching between pages
2  disconnected the USB and connected via Hotspot at 5Ghz - repeated login with no issues

My IP address remained the same.

Not sure if this proves anything but I have been logging into quite a few financial institutions in the past few days without problems so for my setup it looks to be OK.

  • I'm using a mobile hotspot on my phone because there is a fault on my broadband.  Everything works fine except Santander online banking.  When I try to log in, it drops back to the logon screen about 3 times in 4.  Once I finally get in, it sometimes drops back to the logon screen.  Despite this, I did finally manage to do what I needed to do.
