eBay - no feedback

In one or two areas of my life I am not very "money saving", I buy the latest & greatest (do haggle though) and often then sell my prior purchase on eBay. Depending on the item and the age some things hold their money very well and others you get a penny in the pound but thats ok. If I sell more than 5 items a year I'd be surprised and so clearly I am not some professional eBayer.
I try to keep the buyer informed, normally things are listed as courier or collection so message them to see which they want. If its courier I then let them know when its being collected from me, when it will get to them, tracking number etc. This time the box was a bit big so filled it with some eco starch chips that look like polystyrene chips and so mentioned this and that they can either go into the food recycling or they'll just dissolve in warm water.
I get really disappointed though when it all just goes into a black hole and they never say anything or give feedback etc... sure I can see from tacking that they accepted delivery and yes I've been paid so they've kept their end of the bargain but a thanks or just generic feedback would be nice

If I have purchased something and received it then the seller has met my expectations (that is worth 3 stars out of 5) ... but for some reason sellers get really precious if you don't give them 5 out of 5 - hence I can't be bothered giving false feedback.
One of the things I don't like about ebay is the flood of emails I seem to get spamming my inbox.
We have received your order; thanks for your order; we have fitted a new print cartridge to print your order; your order has been passed to our stock controller; we are thinking of packing your order; the dog sniffed your order; your order has been passed to despatch; your order has been taken to the Post Office by the first born; a carrier pigeon has been dispatched to follow your order; here is a useless tracking number; your order has arrived (x2); please please please give me 5 stars because my life is meaningless if you don't; you haven't given feedback - is every thing OK; why have you not given feedback, did we do something wrong .... aaaarrrrghgghhhhhhhh (hence my filter for all ebay emails straight into the junk folder).

I always leave feedback as a buyer I have never sold. But I have had sellers never leave me feedback I never stressed over it.As IvanOpinion has said, sometimes I get the email please make sure to leave my feedback even before the item has arrived.I have had messages from sellers saying they reuse packaging is that okay? Yes, no problem. My last purchase she had been a buyer since 2018 but this was her first time selling. Okay, she was anxious but the endless messages updating me. She even shipped it, 1st class, at £4 more than what she charged for shipping at 2nd class at her own cost! I was dreading looking at eBay as more messages. Item arrived later than stated but royal mail are still slow I did not mark down for that product perfect. I was tempted to tell her to just calm down as she was giving me tension headaches.0

As a buyer, I only leave feedback if the seller has left me feedback first. I completed my half of the deal first - I paid! Sellers who wait until they get "good" feedback before leaving feedback for me get nothing from me.1

One case was found in my favour, the other was more complicated and ultimately I didn't have to refund them. It grated that my feedback was there saying they were great buyers when they weren't.0 -

Feedback has too much opinionated personal baggage on both sides to ever work .
Its like how long is a piece of string
I do see the OP,s point ie. the seller needs to know the item has arrived as thats the whole purpose of sending it?
IMO buyers should be bound to acknowledge arrival and probably date and also sellers acknowledge despatch time date
Will it happen ....I highly doubt it

As a long time buyer i like feedback !
I always give feedback and always appreciate it in return, it's good to be acknowledged and when i'm not it irritates me and liken it to not saying "thank you"; i currently have a seller that's outstanding in their response but hey ho, i doubt it'll happen now.
I know of someone who doesn't even realise feedback 'is a thing' 🙄
Knowing that uninformed people buy and sell on there tells you that anything can happen - on either side - so i just let slide the sellers with poor ebay etiquette but i don't like it 🙄😣1 -

A few years ago, there was a period of star rating inflation on ebay. These days, the star ratings are as follows:
- ***** Good
- **** Not very good
- *** (or less) Terrible
This new rating is now so baked into ebay that if you give a professional seller anything less than a 5 star rating, they will be very unhappy as it damages their reputation. It's daft, but unless a seller does anything wrong, I will give them 5 stars.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I tend to leave feedback for buyers within a couple of days of the sale, but many do not leave me feedback in return, which is disappointing, especially when it is people who sell a lot themselves and have good feedback ratings themselves, I always feel that they should realise why leaving a seller feedback is good etiquette. However, it is what it is and probably 50% of buyers never leave me any feedback, that’s just the way it is.
I think eBay has changed a lot from its early days when feedback was quite important, nowadays you have the Money Back Guarantee, which means that you have a lot of protection as a buyer so feedback is maybe not as imnportant as it used to be, it’s just a courtesy really.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums.
