That looks like a hardwire kit, no? Nextbase do their own. Watching the video on how to do it, even i can manage that much. It's just a question of where to piggy back as i would like it where once the key is removed, the recording stops - not continues and not continues on for x-minutes.

There's no installation, its plug and go, have another look.
"Simple Setup: No electrical wiring or tools needed to install this kit."
  • Ah right I see. It's powered through the OBD port. Possible although for the same price I'd prefer it tapped in to a suitable fuse and then everything is totally out of the way.

Reading the responses here and having a look at the map in my original post would:

    F73: Sunroof (20A)
    Or
    F90: rear screen wiper (15A)

    Be suitable?

I don't have a Sunroof. I know most people tap in to the 12v socket which I see is 15A - so I don't know if the Sunroof fuse being 20A makes any difference at all as I don't really know what that means.

I know the rear screen wiper will only work with the ignition on, so once the key is pulled it shouldn't record. The fuse is 15A, same as the 12v socket fuse. Just with it being the rear wiper would it only work if I engage the rear wiper or would it work at all times (with the ignition on)?

    F90 Rear screen wiper....
That is what is usually recommended for an ignition live fuse to piggy back to.

You will have problems, it will be live independent of the rear wiper being on, It’s also what I used for my Skoda for exactly that purpose.

I like everything about your post, all was sounding good ... apart from the bit i put in bold.

What problems will i have and why and how to sort them?

Does your radio switch off when key is removed, if it does fuse tap into the radio fuse.

I'll try that tomorrow to be sure.

I was in there today cleaning it out & i wondered if it'd power up if i pressed the power button with no key in.
It illuminated, the display said "1 hour" and it went to AUX (which is what i have it set to right now as default).

If that helps answer your question any?
  • Spend less than a tenner on a multimeter and check the fuse works as intended before wiring in the dashcam. It'll also help you to find a good earthing point for the dashcam hard wire kit.

To avoid that (or at least try to) i'll explain what happens. If i go to my car now and plug anything in to the 12v socket, it will work. Whether the key is in the ignition or not.

It only does that because you have not switched the fuse position.  Switch its position problem solved.

Whoa you've lost me. I thought the fuse positions were fixed. So fuse 68 is fuse 68 and remains in that location. The only option you have is what fuse you put in that slot.

But like i said, i know nothing about this stuff. I wasn't aware you could move it around. And even now you tell me you can, i wouldn't have a clue how to as it's a hole to me that gets filled in with a fuse. Sort of like i don't know, the glovebox slot is a hole that gets filled in with the glovebox but you can't move it to say i don't know, the boot.

I know it'll seem like i'm trying to take the piddle, i'm actually not. I just don't get how it can be moved around.

Maybe you should take a look at it then and you will see.

They fit a wheel at each corner and one in the boot, you can take the one from the boot
    and fit it elsewhere.  :)

The first aid kit and warning triangle can fit in the the NS boot panel and/or into the foam
boot liner depending on the build spec when new.
