Our electric consumption is 3 x higher than the adver
We have a typical 3 bed house with dual electic/gas. Our electricity consumption is 3 x higher than the national average - being 8-10 units a day, ours is 32 units a day. When we moved in 10 years ago we thought the bills were high but just thought it was the norm. It was only when chatting with my friend and asking other friends about their bills we realised ours were
massive in comparison.
The metre is booked to be tested as it looks like the current supplier might of inherited the problem in 2018 -
the investigator at the ombudsman can’t see “the spike”, which could suggest the problem may have started with the previous supplier. If the metre isn’t faulty what could be using up all that electricity?

How many people in your house? Is it gas or electric that heats water, is the cooker gas or electric, do you have underfloor heating anywhere? What kind of bulbs in your light sockets?0

Electric Shower; magic dust wall heaters; fan heaters, oil filled rads; American style fridge freezer ............Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

So gas central heating? Radiators on walls? Hot water from gas boiler?Annasc said:We have a typical 3 bed house with dual electic/gas. What do you have that is electric? Underfloor heating anywhere, showers, multi freezers, external security halogen lights, internal non LED light fittings, immersion water heater. etc.
Think about what you have that is using power, keep a daily log of readings and come back for further advice.
Do you give regular readings regarding usage?
Lol not from me, but there are very good experts here that can and will advise.
Edit. Sorry its meter not metre that's a length.

Only you can answer how much you are using! Check your meter daily and you should be able to work out which appliance it is. Look at dishwashers, tumble dryer, electric showers, tv left on standby etc ; highly unlikely to be a meter fault and you shouldn’t really compare to another persons usage as it’s not an accurate measure of energy used.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

Immersion heater switch left on? Assuming you don't have a gas combi boiler.Long showers with an electric shower? It is very easy to trace consumption.0

Get a clip on energy monitor and start shutting off circuits on the consumer unit. It's then very easy to spot the high consumption. It's going to be something like an immersion heater or electric underfloor heating or a halogen security light on 24/7.0

Basics: how is the property heated and hot watered?
Leccy: so your annual consumption is 11,680kWh. Correct? If so, yes, that's over 3 times the average for a property with gas CH and DHW. But, if your heating or hot water is electric, then it's quite normal. Which is why we need to know the above.
Gas: what is your annual kWh usage?
You've not given us enough info so far to suggest what the problem is.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Unless it's an old rotating disk meter there will be a red LED marked '800 Imp/kWh' or similar. The faster it flashes, the more electricity you are using; after 800 flashes (impulses) you would have used 1kWh costing 12p or whatever your tariff charges. Make sure it doesn't flash when everything is unplugged or switched off.As you have gas, you shouldn't be using electricity for room or water heating, apart from the kettle.0

We don't know if the OP has gas CH and DHW, only that they have a gas supply. Let's not make assumptions without basic info from the OP.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Might have to wait an other 3 years for any info. Op appears to post once at that time. LOL
