Have you considered purchasing something that is actually what you want?
Yes however in the same area is £60k more this is £210 and others in same area for school catchment is £270 so well over our budget. . This house is what we want (4 beds, south facing garden, quiet cul-de-sac) and weve bought hoping we can create a larger driveway and convert the remainder of the garage into another room.

I'm not sure how you would know what i want when we dont know each other. I assume your just another sarcastic keyboard warrior instead of being helpful or not commenting at all :)
But your buying a house where you are going to spend £20k + to change the garage and £40-50k on a loft conversion, it's false economy.
  • Interested as to how the driveway ended up so short. Either this was a planning mistake or the garage was built without planning permission or it was originally car ports and the owner has added garage doors possibly contrary to planning conditions. Check paperwork and historical street view images.

Or it wasn't intended to be a driveway for parking vehicles but purely the access to the garage, which is more probable looking at the size of the hardstanding.

I can take critism it’s fine..we have three children and at this time we can’t afford a £270. This option might be 5 years - 10 years.. a lifetime who knows.

My sportage fits on the side nearest the door ( the car isn’t pulled up to the garage on door side on pic) but the other side more like a fiat 500.

I was hoping just to get some ideas.. my plan was to move the left side garage door back 1.5 to create a miniature carport..

I was wanting to convert the remainder of the garage to a room.. I posted about loft conversions on another post but I have no urgent need to do that.

It’s easy to say buy the £270 house but if you can’t afford it then unfortunately compromises have to be made.

It needs modernising anyway so maybe we can make money on it longer term to fund a more practical home later on 👍

Hopefully it’s not a conservation area where changing appearance is mostly not allowed?
It does not look like such a majorly costly project. If you have just one car could you try parking sideways, along the garages? Could you park on the road blocking your own entry or it won’t be allowed or Road is too narrow?

  • No  its in a small cul-de-sac but parking outside on road is an option, we are at the end so the current owner just parked their car overhanging the path as no other houses would use this piece of path anyway. For me, i just wanted to park both cars on the drive and obviously reduce the garage floor space slightly to achieve this.
