I purchased a new TV licence through TV Licensing and paid in full by cheque. After chasing up why I haven't received my new licence, TV licensing informed me that they do not have a record of a cheque payment being made. My bank statement is showing that the cheque had been cashed a few weeks ago. My question is can I make a request to my bank to whom the cheque was paid to?
Cheques are destroyed in days now. So best you will get is a copy. At least that would show if it has been altered.
And as eskbanker said there are far more secure and quicker ways of paying now.
Cheques can be intercepted in the post and paid in to a 3rd party account if altered. It was well know a few years ago that cheques to HMRC were being taken at some point in the mail and paid into a account of a HMR C(cant say that bit)
I don't think so - cheques are held by the bank for a long time - some call it a legal hold which means indefinitely - mainly due to problems with the cheque processing companies formerly known as clearing.

Sadly not. They are all imaged now.  Hence why some banking apps allow you to take photo's of the cheques. If they were still required a original to pay, then you could not use a app.
    Original are destroyed in days.
Well versed as it was part of my job. We used to be able to request back 6 years. In the last couple of years it has got shorter & shorter. Now it is not even worth it on the same day.
