Redundancy Tax/Benefits Planning

Options
Dear SMEers,
I have the possibility of redundancy and given the current situation I am taking a very prudent view of new employment opportunities.
I am 50 years old and a higher rate tax payer and I have been offered a 6-figure sum - more than enough to pay off my remaining mortgage.
As I am on a 2 year fix, my initial plan was to keep the money on account for the remaining fixed term then pay it all off with no penalty.......However, I presume having these "savings" in my account will mean that I am not entitled to universal credit.
From a tax and benefits perspective, would I be better off taking the hit on the early redemption and paying off the mortgage now?Remaining funds would be paid into my pension so that my savings are within the limits.

Any advice much appreciated.
