Shell & Plusnet- is anyone else confused?

Options
I looked at both Shell & Plusnet from the MSE newsletter. Shell says £23.99 includes £100 cashback, where as the newsletter says £23.99 PLUS £100 cashback. To me that's two different things. Plusnet, when I go to add on a call package, it says unlimited calls to UK landlines and 2,000 minutes to UK mobiles for £9 a month but when I click through to the next page, it says 100 minutes to UK mobiles is an extra £3. Just had a call from Plusnet as I was accessing their site, he said this is for people who want more than the 2,000 minutes but it doesn't say that. I'm confused about both companies, maybe I'm just getting old.

Shell   did you apply via the  Shell Link same for PN via the Plusnet link .

Newsletter says Cheapest FIBRE b'band & line. Apply via this Shell link and it's £23.99/mth, plus you get an AUTO £100 bill credit within 3mths. So it's a total £187.88 outlay over the 1yr contract, equiv to £15.66/mth. It's available to 95% of homes.

  • Yes, I went via the links from the newsletter for both.

The newsletter is incorrect in stating that Plusnet has the cheapest standard broadband, because Now is cheapest at £18 and this includes anytime calls. There is no free security, though.

Is the OP not trying to sign up to fibre ??
  • Found it exactly as LindsayT. Says on the MSE site £23.99 per month + £100 cashback.
When I followed the link to the Shell site, it says £23.99 includes £100 cashback.
  • davglo, at last, thank you. Going by some of the replies, I was beginning to think I was speaking with forked tongue lol.

    Hi LindsayT,

We're aware there's a bit of confusion about the wording on Shell Energy's page when you sign up.

I can confirm that it is £23.99 PLUS £100 cashback. The £31.99 price you see crossed out is the price you'd pay if you went direct to Shell so it's kind of irrelevant in relation to our deal.

I hope that clears things up but on Plusnet, I'll have to take a look into it further for you and let you know.

    Thanks,
    MSE Chris
  • Hi I also signed up yesterday to the shell MSE offer on the latest money Saving Expert news letter.

But I looked at my email it said £ 31.99 but if you scroll down the email you get the price you will be paying through MSE Deal. £23.99.

    ( so far so good)

I also signed up and there's no mention in the email of £100 cashback. Slightly worrying but I'm hoping it will eventually come?

I think you can get plusnet cheaper than £18 a month equivalent if you pay the line rental up front. Although whether you can do that and get the £75 cash back is another matter.
