I think I have read Monzo does this, too. Personally, I fail to see the attraction of this feature. I know when my regular incoming payments are due from my personal finance manager (AceMoney, but others are available), where I can see regular incoming (and outgoing) payments months in advance, not just 24 hours before they are due.
I too have regular payments scheduled months in advance, but for dividend payments these are approximations as the dates are set by the paying company and tend to drift later, and then there's the processing time at the ISA manager as well as the BACS processing time. Seeing the inbound payment would be a reassurance that all is well.

On the main point, the old Yorkshire Bank online statement could be persuaded to look a few days into the future, when incoming BACS payments, and scheduled outgoings, would show up.   I've not noticed similar functionality with the newer, mobile-targeted, online banking.

  • HSBC, of which First Direct is obviously part, shows inbound BACS payments and outbound Direct Debits as pending the day before they're due to be paid in/out.

My biggest bugbear with the HSBC app is that it doesn't show pending credit card payments so they don't show until the transaction has been posted. Particularly unhelpful when you attempt a transaction and aren't sure whether it has gone through or not.

So we need to find a bank account for her that is easy to manage. First direct need an app or dongle to log in which is a pain.

    Lloyds Bank?

Or wait a day and see the funds actually in your account?
  • Starling do this. Monzo do this and actually let you claim the BACS payment at 4pm.
  • HSBC does, i like seeing my wages before they come in to my account as getting payslips is very hit and miss with my company. Also when i go shopping i can see my purchases appear straight away under pending.

Which is what I do, but sometimes I need money in the account to cover an outgoing automated payment, and it would be nice to have the certainty that it will be covered without moving extra in from elsewhere.

  • Yes, both Monzo and Starling do that. I've got both accounts.

Btw, I would really like to know the truth behind those 'horror stories' about Monzo closing accounts for 'no reason'.
I receive my wage into my Monzo account, pay my rent from it, some direct debits and even standing order for almost 3k each month. I send and receive money to/from my friends. Never had a single transaction blocked, let alone account frozen or something.
Is it even possible for a bank to not know what benefit payments look like? I really can't believe they would block an account because someone has received benefits. It always sound to me like all those poeple 'forgot' to mention some 'little details' about their transactions which might not be 100% kosher.

If only HSBC could make the same functionality available for their credit cards.
