Disclose that (attached) house next door is privately rented when selling?

Hannimal said:It's quite disheartening being a part of generation rent and reading this. I am now buying my first place but I have been renting up until now, as is my partner. We are both fully capable adults (both doctors), we have never had complaints from neighbours and we haven't caused any damage to any of the properties we've lived in - if anything this one is in better shape now than it was when I moved in as I've changed and upgraded some fixtures. The thought that being tenants somehow makes us worse people to live near to is really disheartening. Almost everyone I know is renting and this is a generation issue. The real villains here aren't the tenants.
Your post is really interesting. Tenants in social housing have always endured stereotypical negative responses. I, like many others grew up on a council estate and throughout my life have owned and rented properties.
I was listening to a radio 4 program last year debating the shift in perceptions of renters. One of the commentators argued that council house tenants are now seen as second to homeowners, with private renters below them (with regards to status). Equally, more council or HA tenants these days hold degrees, and work in highly skilled industries. The change from the 60s and 70s is remarkable, yet there is still stigma attached to renting.

If asked tell them it's rented but the landlord is only an accidental landlord so it doesn't count.2

Why not put us all out of our misery and ask the solicitor why the question was asked.

Well at least you don;t need to warn any purchaser about even worse home-owners living next door always banging on about house prices..

The bottom line is you are not legally required to know who lives next door! Only thing to avoid is starting a dispute, then you have to declare it! Some people are friendly with neighbours some never say hello. Don’t need to supply names just there is a couple or whatever and that’s that.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)
