Hi - looking for advice.  We've missed some big events this year (30th wedding, significant birthdays etc) - it is what it is and so have many others.  However - looking to next year and hoping for the best - I have a really big birthday coming up mid year and (hoping this has all died down) and looking at hosting a party where everyone can celebrat with me and each others missed events.  I need a lot of beer and wine - and France is still cheap but the Brexit door is closing!
I'm happy to self isolate on return for the 14 days - I work from home anyway.  But I cant get all want to bring back in one car.  I dont want to take a van as this really bumps the cost up.  So looking at going over on the tunnel, loading up, coming back, unloading in Folkstone into my wifes car for her to take the first lot home and going straight back over on the same day. Drive to Reims or Saumur for some fizz then back the next day - into isolation.
Anyone know if this is possible?  I cant see a reason why not....
Thx

  • Nothing stopping you having to stay in France for 14 days as far as I know.
  • can’t see why not?  Might spark some interest from eagle eyed border officials especially if you are a shop owner 😂😂🤣🤣.   Have a great party when it comes!

There's no mandatory quarantine for arrival in France.  Although, you must fill out a form to say you have no been in contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 symptoms in the last 14 days and you do have any symptoms yourself. If you do arrive in France and border control think you're showing signs of COVID-19 they might force you to quarantine for 14 days at accommodation by the French state.  So in your case (unless things change) the only potential problem will be if you start to develop symptoms while crossing the channel, which I think is unlikely.

I'm actually more concerned with UK border control saying - Nope, you cant travel back to France - you've just got back from there and so its isolation for 14 days.....

Viruses don't die down they remain in circulation.

There is nothing stopping you coming back to the UK and then leaving again before 14 days is up, the UK isnt a prison. Obviously the 14 day clock resets on return.

True - but they do ebb and flow, peak and trough so to speak.  I'm hoping mid next year we are in a deep trough with a better idea how to manage it.

Considering prices of tunnel crossing right now, isn't it really cheaper to go once in a van? The cheapest prices I saw for tunnel were £100 for 1-2 days round trip. So that will be £200 for two trips. Is van ticket (high car) much more expensive? Otherwise, nothing stopping you from doing two booze trips in one day.
