WiFi hotspot access - Boingo

I have been checking out WiFi hotspot subscription services and came across a US company called Boingo, who offer unlimited access for $21.99 a month and have thousands of access points all over the world, including UK. This is a fraction of the cost from BT or any other UK company I can find.

However when I went to the sign up pages, the list of countries for subscribers seemed to cover almost all the world except UK.

Does anyone know anything about Boingo? Why can we not use it but people in Ireland, the rest of Europe and lots of other countries can? Any problem if I signed up using the address of my brothers Florida holiday home or friends in Ireland? Any other cheap UK alternatives?

Thanks in advance

You need a US billing address credit card to sign with their US service. Dont know why UK would be excluded?
  • I was also looking at boingo to use in florida in a months Any help with any wifi access would be welcome.

Thank you for contacting Boingo Wireless.

Unfortunately since you are based in the UK you would not be able to sign up for our services at this time - we have a contractual agreement with one of the local providers there in the UK which prevents us from allowing new customer signups for customers based in the UK at this time. We hope to be able to renegotiate this with the local provider there in the near future, but at this time we do not have any estimate on when this will change. Hopefully this information is helpful for you, please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.

( although they do also offer some included roaming minutes)

it details that kissimmee has free wi-fi access in places

not any good for me though as I am at the other end of the 192
  • I'm back from my trip to Florida. I found a bar in old Town Kissimmee called Blue Max that had some sort of Wifi access point that you had to pay for. I didn't look in to it as I found at least 3 signals around old town that allowed me access. Who they belonged to I don't know. If you do use somebody’s wifi access don't abuse it and don't forget the security issues.
