When I first opened my HSBC current account back in 2012, they never sent me a debit card for several years. As it happened, I didn't need the debit card, but they couldn't possibly know that.

Years later, my HSBC app stopped working when they messed up an upgrade. They said the only way I could get it going again was to go into Branch. Branch didn't check my ID or account or anything. They simply put me on their internal phone to some central department who then enabled the app again for me.

I applied for an HSBC credit card in 2017. I heard nothing for a couple of weeks, then had a letter apologising that, on this occasion, they regret they had to decline my application. The card arrived in a separate envelope by the same post. I have been using this card ever since.

From reading these comments I'm glad I have only got the account for the regular saver, it does seem to be over complicated to use online banking but I will no doubt get the hang of it and hopefully no more calls from the nice lady in the fraud department :(
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!
  • I might go into branch today. I want to get the account fully functional ASAP and start making use of that regular saver.
