I have just opened a HSBC Advance account for my everyday banking
, I have received my debit card so I went to online banking to register and it says quite clearly "To register, you'll need a Telephone
Security Number. If you're new to online banking and need to set one up,
please call us on 03457 404404." I rang and was told that the number would come in the post.
My question is, is the website right or is the call centre right?
It doesn't bode well that the registration page does not work on Firefox so I'm hoping the rest of the site will.
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!

I have literally just applied for a HSBC account online, and on the confirmation page, it says “Internet and Telephone Banking - We’ll send details on how to set these up by post”. So how I’ve read it is that I need to wait for something in the post to arrive before I can use online banking.1

Thank you, must have missed that, but I have just reread the welcome pack emailed to me and it says to ring for the number.

You can ring up and ask to register for telephone banking and internet banking. The call handler puts you through to an automated system where you choose your own numbers to register.billn said:Thank you, must have missed that, but I have just reread the welcome pack emailed to me and it says to ring for the number. That’s how I did it when I opened mine a few years ago.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:1 -
Thanks, I will wait a couple of days to see if I get anything in to post.

Hsbc online banking involves multiple layers of security, good in some ways but a pig to set up.

How long did it take you to get the information you need to register for online banking? Or did you manage to sort it out a different way in the end? I’ve had the card, pin, account details letter with a signature form to send back, but nothing yet linked to online or telephone banking. It’s been nearly 2 weeks since I applied for it.billn said:I have just opened a HSBC Advance account for my everyday banking

I think it took about two weeks for me.1

I rang them and got it sorted that way, I still haven't received an activation code in the post and my account has been open more than two weeks.

Thanks. In the end I did the same, after today receiving an email saying I should have by now received everything to get my account up and running. All sorted now.billn said:I rang them and got it sorted that way, I still haven't received an activation code in the post and my account has been open more than two weeks.1 -
When I set up my HSBC account a few years ago I too was told that a code would be sent in the post, which never arrived. I ended up going into branch to sort it as they wouldn't let me do it over the phone. Very slow and painful process to get everything set up, but it has been trouble-free since then.0
