When an auto quote not set in aspic

I just got caught out renewing my car insurance. I did my due diligence 3 weeks ago (before renewal was due) and identified cheapest quote. This week went to renew and the sites are updating quotes to a higher figures so I go through it all again and they are all higher. I am sure it wasn't like that in 2019 - anyone else?
