Sounds like one of the options I gave above - an electric boiler feeding a water radiator system, The worst heating system known to man.

  • Thankyou so much for all your help so far. Mums going to double check the serial numbers tomorrow and hes getting photos of the boiler. If the heating system is that bad maybe its not even worth him changing supplier and we should look at him moving house to somewhere else. Shame as he loves the flat and area and it came part furnished so we will have to try get furniture ontop of dealing with this debt.

  • Well i think we  may have solved the problem. But will double check on here. To me it looks like the clock is wrong so its mixing up his day and night rates. This photo was taken at 2pm but to me the clock is showing 10pm  Am i right?

It's not unusual for these old time switches to be out like this - sometimes it's to your benefit.

You may get the timeswitch reset but don't hold your breath.   Unlikely to get a rebill .

That may well be part of the problem but the consumption is very high.   As are the unit rates.

Did you find out out what the heating is ?

  • This is the boiler. Hes been turning it off recently and hes not used the heating since january

Unfortunately, probably not.  It won't make a vast difference.
You seems to have completely ignored my point that the first bill shows that he's paid several hundred pounds for the previous occupier's usage.

Confirmed the worst arrangement possible !
"This is the boiler. Hes been turning it off recently and hes not used the heating since january"

But he's using  lot of energy - 40 kWh a day - that's more than just hot water from the tap.

Keep digging.  And note Gerry's comments about what happened last Novmeber.

Sorry i havnt meant to ignore it. Just a bit overwhelmed with it all as its feeling like a lost cause now.
I have asked my brother about the meter reading from day one and from what i can gather the letting agent read the wrong meter in the block of flats so my brother read the meter himself and when he did that they deleted all the old bills and made new ones. Im not sure why it says estimated or what has gone on there but i worry its to far back to go back now and start questioning and my brother has no record of it anymore but has done regular meeter readings since including daily at one point on sparks request  but worth a try when im doing my email.

Little update. We have a case manager. She agreed the first readings are well off and knocked 1500 units of electric off. Shes sent various questions off to other people and is coming back to me monday. Still leaves 10500 units for 10 months which is a joke. Shes getting the £140 of admin charges removed aswell so the £900 debt will be around £600. Just want to get it as low as possible so my mum can clear it. Will have a update about the clock and the bill being redone on Monday and about a engineer visit to see if he can find a explanation for it. As the landlord has told us that skyhigh electric bills are why tenants never stay.
I got a feeling she things shes going to fob me off easily but she wont i have all my info, all the bills and broke them right down. Ive recalculated them all and know it will knock a little chunk of the debt off.
Once the meter has been checked  and verified as faulty clock and possible meter fault they are putting in a whole new smart metre “to stop this problem happening again” what they dont know is thats the day i will be switching supplier
