First Direct has been closed for new customers since social distancing started as their staff are normally in call centres and they wanted to preserve customer service levels for existing customers rather than go for more customers.
It's similar in a sense to how all the banks pulled their switching offers during the lockdown and have only started to reintroduce them now.

Why would you want to put your Marcus money with first direct? Other than the £300 a month you can pay into the regular savings account they don’t have any accounts worth bothering with.
