What to do with an old car?

£500 seems pretty good to me.
Besides, I’m surprised the OP is that concerned about the value of a car they were given In the first place especially as they have just bought a brand new car, which will likely lose many thousands as soon as it’s driven off the forecourt
If it’s value-for-money motoring they’re after then keep the ‘good for 200k miles’ Micra - after all, it’s not going to depreciate much in value
Wbac always overprice on their website then screw you over when you take your car to them, too many hottie stories about this0 -

You need to decide whether you want the easiest sale (including your choice of when it goes) or put lots of effort in for hopefully a bit more money. I would ask the place you are getting your new car from what they would give you for it (because very easy, and you can probably drop off the day of your choice). I would see what the local interest is on whichever you use of facebook/ebay/gumtree.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Wbac always overprice on their website then screw you over when you take your car to them, too many hottie stories about this£500, £400, £250 . . . who cares. The point is that it's worth next to nothing to anyone because of the risks involved in buying a 16 year old car, even though the current owner 'knows' how reliable it has been etc.As for it not being worth spending £450 to pass an MoT test because it's more than the car is worth, well that's just plain nonsense - because the value of the car is irrelevant. My last car was 17 years old and I'd had it for 14 of those so I knew pretty much everything about it and the fact that it had never let me down. Despite being almost worthless, if a car needs all new brakes, tyres and an oil and filter change then it's easily possible to spend more on that than the car is worth. But tyres, brakes and oil changes are a cost of running ANY car whatever it's value, so relating it to the value of the car is pointless.I got £500 for that car when I PX'd it three years ago and I've just checked online and can see it has a current tax and MoT, so presumably it's still being used - so someone got a real bargain and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've spent more than £500 on keeping the car on the road during those three years.

Find a friendly farmer with a field full of stubble and ask if he'll let you go grass-tracking for an afternoon, then call a scrap yard.
Or donate to the fire brigade (if they want practice cars at present).0 -

Just came on here for the first time in four years and saw all these replies.
The car passed its MOT, I fixed it up for not very much, and it was sold as seen with a full documented service history for £900 on AutoTrader.3
