M6 toll barrier

  • Hi all
Unfortunately I did something last week which on reflection was really stupid...I drove up to the m6 toll barrier, the guy in front of me was taking ages and I started to think that he had broken down. I was in a hire car and worried about not getting it back on time, so I reversed back out and drove into another lane. As soon as I did this the car I had been stuck behind drove through and the thought occurred to me that I might well get in trouble for this. Reversing on a motorway seems to carry quite a hefty fine.

Does anyone know, is this likely to be picked up by cameras? Am I likely to be get a fine, 3 points...or worse?

Also, how long am I likely going to have to wait to find out given it was a hire car (Enterprise) they will receive any notice and I imagine take some time to name me as the driver?

Thanks in advance for all thoughts!
    Did you get a fine?

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Exactly the same thing happened to me at the same toll plaza a few years ago, except I was in the wrong lane as at the time there was a separate cash or card lane. I reversed back and drove into the correct lane and the toll operator said to me I shouldn't have done that as it is an offence and I could get done for it.

I never heard anything more about it.

Nope - thanks for checking in
  • I have problems with my arm which makes it difficult to reach the contactless payment device. Also, I cannot get out of the car.
    A. I only use the Toll road 2 or 3 times a year. I've looked on the Breeze webpage and you need to keep £30 in your account!
    B.  Is there a way to pay for people with mobility issues? It's not obvious when you are there.

Do you have a blue badge, as they only charge £7 a year.
All done by anpr, you just drive slowly up to the first 2 lanes on the left, slow lanes.
It reads your reg and opens automatically.

I don't believe just having a Blue Badge qualifies.

Yes, needs to be registered with them as a Mobility vehicle - blue badge doesn't make any difference to pricing. (FAQ here)
  • Thanks. I don't have a blue badge. But, I have a frozen right shoulder and difficulty getting out of the car in the confined space next to the machine. I feel there ought to be a better way.
The mersey gateway< Runcorn bridge> is ANPR and I just sail through. It's not about the amount I pay it's about physically doing it or doing it automatically without giving M6Toll £30.

I know someone who is really short and struggles with these things (they also drive a vehicle which is far too big for them which does not help) and they have a stick with a little grabber thing on one end that can hold a card to tap contactless and the other end had a rubber prodder so that they can press buttons on intercoms. Not sure if something like that would help?
