Cancelled cruise fallout

Booked a cruise out of Barcelona which has been cancelled and have been offered a voucher. OK
Have been offered a refund from Easyjet. OK
Have emailed the Barcelona Hotel where we were due to stay for two nights. No reply.
Have just learned the hotel is 'temporarily closed' How do I get a refund from the hotel for the payment made in December 2019 ?

Was it booked as refundable ?1

Was the hotel booked as a package or separately, if the latter then you have no fundamental right to a refund, so looking at goodwill or a claim on travel insurance.1

Not sure if it was refundable or not.

I booked with the hotel. It's not like I have cancelled this booking, they have by closing the hotel.

OP probably best if you give some dates as well, for booking, trip etc
If the hotel fails to fulfil the booking and doesn't refund you may be able to clam back from the card you paid on, debit card would be chargeback or credit card could be chargeback or section 75 for failure to supply the advertised service, if paid by bank tranfser there is no recourse. do you have travel insurance?1 -
Thanks again Nottingham Knight,
I booked the hotel in December '19 which was pre-Covid19, by debit card. Were due to be in Barcelona in October 2020. As I say, the cruise and the flight have been cancelled and the hotel is at present, 'temporarily closed '.

Sounds like you booked it all seperately. So if the hotels reopens, it is there and open and available and the hotel in all likelihood may not care that other elements of your DIY holiday have been cancelled or moved.
Of course, it could remain closed.0 -

Yes if it stays closed you should get a refund but obviously no guarantee given how hotels and many parts of the travel industry are struggling. You can go to your bank and ask them to do a chargeback. Assume you have no insurance in place as that would be the back up which should pay out in most circumstances.0

I have some sympathy as I face having to pick apart a DIY trip in October myself but i am fully aware it isnt the fault of the hotels all this is happening.
There is the chargeback suggestion above but this will certainly fail if the hotel reopens and disputes it.0
