  • Oh back on topic, I remember having a disc with a load of car info. Think it was called Autodata. I must've lost it or thrown it out as I can't find it anymore and can't remember what exactly was on it but I know it had various vehicle info.

    Ring bells to anyone?

I had visions of you taking your car radiator into your living room.   :D
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Yep, it's Autodata. Depending on the version you have it also has instructions for doing certain procedures like cambelt changes.

  • I'll need to try and find it then. I don't usually throw anything like that out so it'll be buried somewhere most likely. I used to be a member on a few car forums years ago and I think someone sent me it. It's been that long I can't remember now.

Ahh autodata so many russian versions with a nice payload. Mate had one corrupt his BIOS.

Long time ago now it was something do with with his drive or memory,  drive or memory growing/shrinking
causing major slowdowns of his system, he had to reflash his BIOS.  Adobe premiere was another favourite
of them adding an extra payload.

Not quite sure what you're saying but anyway, i remember installing it on my machine a good few years ago and it worked. Didn't seem to do any harm to it.
Just not sure where i put the disc now though.

I think he might be suggesting that many of the... "unofficially sourced"... copies floating around are from less-than-trustworthy sources and are malware vectors.

To subscribe to Autodata officially is not cheap. Just shy of a grand for a year's access for full access, north of £500 for "service and maintenance" (it's online now, obvs)...

  • Yep those extra files that prevent it phoning home are doing what in the background?
Also its been a while since they sold it on CD/DVD so its likely to be fairly old also.

Too much effort for the cost of a haynes manual which you can also get as an online version
which is genuine not the dodgy copies with missing pages.

    So's my car really.

Wasn't aware you could get online versions of Haynes though. To be honest I haven't even checked what it's eBaying for. If its a few quid then I may get one to save hassle. If its 15-20 quid then I may take my chances. Tight I know but you makes your decisions and live with the outcome.
