Thanks Suffolk Lass. I'm so cross. I bought stainless steel scourers and they just whizzed through the gunk. I've always used a basic Lidl or similar cleaner with one of those yellow sponges with the hard green scourer on, I'd have saved so much time and effort if I'd just gone for the scourers!5

Have been to the fishmongers with DH - that was a mistake! I went in for some smoked haddock but also came out with a dressed crab and some tartare sauce, neither of which I'd planned to buy. Spent £12 so now only have £62.13 left for next week and any other bits we might need between the planned shops and end of the month.3

£37.45 in Aldi, going into lockdown today, Wales too @mumtoomany, store was very busy, stocked up on tinned tomatoes, baked beans and loads of veg, plus other odds and ends, have put all my excess veg in a bag and hung it in the shed, not reachable to any rodents, hopefully it will last me.Do I need it or just want it.4

Hi guys, apologies i've been very much MIA. Mr Compet was right, food shops have been the last thing on my mind with the house move (and we're still not quite finished!).
I've tried to add up a very rough estimate of costs for food this month so heres my super quick, super rough, super estimated stock take:
£45 aldi (stock up for new house), £40 lidl (which included an extra £20 for some small christmas bits), £20 asda (damn being so close to the new house!) and probably a few smaller top ups mid week. Mr Compet has been buying his own food for his shifts so i'd estimate £50 for him (he likes to spend!).
In total i'm going with £175 for the month which I don't think is too bad to say we've been so disrupted.
Our months run from pay day to pay day, which is today, so technically I think we smashed it again this month despite all the up and downs!
I'm going to get back on the horse, so to speak, this new month. Really really enjoy being part of this community. Hoping we can get our spend down perhaps even lower this month as the freezer is pretty full with meat and we're hopefully going to get back into our normal routine. Thanks for reading my word vomit on this friday morning!
Sending good wishes to all!Officially a homeowner 🥳🥳

Well & truly bust here, by £72+! In my defence, I was filling the new freezer with an eye to a potential lockdown even though the incidence here is still pretty low, but people where it's higher are baying for it to be "fair" & my bet is that we will have a "circuit breaker" sooner rather than later.
To be be completely honest, I spent a fair bit more, too, but it's from another "purse" - I spotted lots of our festive favourites in L!dls & decided to buy most of what we'll need now, rather than in a rush in December, & that comes from the money I save up all year for presents & festive food. I'm lucky that the cash is there to do that, and to stock the new freezer up. Will be donating a bit extra to the food bank for those who aren't in such a good position.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)5 -
Like everyone else am getting anxious about impending lockdown and have been making an enormous list for tomorrow morning. Meanwhile have spent a small amount on immediately needed coffee, bread and mustard so have £57.62 to last until the end of the month. Have decided to use the bulk supplies fund in the morning and will be stocking up on coffee, long life milk, lentils, beans, root veg., garlic, ginger, fresh fruit, miso and salt. Am off to bed now to try to stop worrying, night all, goldfinches.3

Morning all, October is not going to badly at the moment. I’ve had a tot up and I’ve spent £196.72 so far. In theory that should be it as I try to shop on a Friday lunchtime now, taking a longer lunch so I can go without my 7 year old. Next Friday is pay day but I will probably shop on Thursday instead as I’m on holiday and the car is in for it’s mot on the Friday anyway. It might be a bit tight but with good meal planning fingers crossed to squeeze that extra week out 😉SPC #023 SPC 12: £125.86[/COLOUR]:SPC 13: £214.98: SPC 14: £297.41 SPC 15: £237.27 SPC 16 £335.39; SPC 17 £662.09 SPC 18 £20MFW #21 Mortgage start Dec 2015 £79,950; June 2025 £19,394.00 2025 OP £1589/COLOR]/£2,000 MFiT T6 #3 £19070/£25,500 (72.82%%) MFiT T7 #3 £2050/£21,930 (9.34%)3

Morning everyone totted up and I have £59 left of this months budget to take me up to 31st so should be doable off to Aldis and market with my list which I will try to keep to and not be tempted. It's my DD3 birthday this week so will dust off my tins and make her a cake instead of lining someone else's pocket as I would normally.Frugal challenge 2025
