Do slugs indicate damp?

If there’s the occasional slug finding its way into my front room from under the house would I want to be gaining access to under the floorboards to see what’s going on down there?

The kitchen is at the back of the house but the water supply comes in through the front of the house.

would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

Slugs do appear when it's moist out but that doesn't necessarily mean you have any damp issues or leaks simply that they're out anyway and one has managed to find a way inside. BTW, I haven't seen any slugs out in the garden at all this year, usually you'd see a few on the patio of a morning but nothing.

We had a few slugs indoors and they were in the utility room area next to the washing machine although no obvious sign of damp. A few blue pellets and they have not returned.

Wow!  its been a good year for slugs here!  First night I put a couple of slug pubs out to protect my courgettes I got about 40 overnight, then down to averaging 15-20 per night for the following week...and still my courgettes were getting eaten!

I've had a real abundance of bird life this year, maybe that's why I haven't seen many slugs in the garden. Not many snails either come to think of it, probably for the same reason.
  • My in-laws elderly father has slugs in his house. The house was extended more than 10 years ago and I see slugs trails at the base of the old external wall. No one else mentions it, but I think its a sign that something is not right.
There is a big difference between slugs coming in from outside and slugs able to live inside the house.

Do you have air bricks?  We had slugs coming in via those.  I cleared the plants around the outside and fitted mouse-mesh and that solved it.

    Good point. Thanks.

But have the slugs taken up residence under my floorboards because it was cooler than being outside in the blistering heat this summer or have they come in because there’s damp?

I guess researching habitats preferred by slugs should be done before raising laminate and floorboards!

Apparently they like pet food and have a great sense of smell so that could be attracting them if you have pets.
I honestly never thought about why they were coming into our house.  Once I blocked up their access, it stopped and I put it out of my mind.  That was 8 years ago though and the house is still standing and with no signs of damp that I can see in that room.  It suppose it might be damp under the floorboards though; at some point it's going to touch the earth and it's always in shade.

Does it smell or feel damp in that room?
