New kid on the block?

Sorry for so blatantly fishing, but I wondered if there were any new kids on the block in terms of multi-asset funds that have knocked Vanguard Life Strategy off the top recommended spot. I have a bit in these funds already and now have some more to invest. Would happily put more in here but just wondered if any savvy members had eyeballed something new.
Also, have funds in 3 platforms (inc. iWeb) at the moment and am thinking of putting everything on the iWeb to save fees. Wondered if there was any glaring problem with doing this (appear to be no exit charges in the other platforms) that I'm missing.
Thanks in advance.

You could do worse than compare how lifestrategy does versus similar multi asset funds ( or global equity for LS 100%)

I think several of our more learned contributors also talk about the HSBC Global Strategy funds
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!
  • Thanks guys - this is helpful. Do also have some in HSBC Global Strategy - just looking for a little variation and perhaps a little more adventurous. Default would be VLS 60-100. Perhaps that's the most sensible if not clued up with the myriad other fund options...

Specifically what sort of variation are you looking for, i.e. what gaps do you perceive VLS has that you consider important to your portfolio construction?  Presumably you're not just looking to accumulate multiple multi-asset funds just for the sake of it, given the sizeable overlap between them?

Likewise, what do you mean by more adventurous?  Most multi-asset product ranges offer alternatives along the risk/volatility scale so it shouldn't be necessary to use different products to move up or down that.

https://monevator.com/passive-fund-of-funds-the-rivals/ offers a comparison between leading players, but if you're looking to use one or more multi-asset funds for your core holding(s) and diversify further with small satellites then you'll need to be clearer about exactly what you're trying to achieve....

Yep, that's the sort of thing. Sorry - clarity is the sort of thing I'm trying to achieve by making this post. So, 20K or so in satellites with higher risk (hoping for higher returns but ok to take a hit on this amount) and covering something other than what the VLS etc cover. Sorry I can't be any clearer than that...

The multi asset funds with a UK bias , like Life strategy and Blackrock Consensus , have performed worse this year than say approx equivalent HSBC global strategy and Fidelity Multi allocator funds , with no UK bias.
Personally I think there is a case for holding more than one multi asset fund. Although there will be a lot of overlap, there are some differences between them and normally there will be noextra cost for holding more than one , so it is sensible diversification.
  • How about XDWT, ESPO, ECAR to add some diversity  :disappointed:

In all honesty, the vanguard funds are fairly decent, picking some others would only serve the purpose of averaging out your performance(and no harm in that).

Lifestrategy 100% has the present millstone of large UK exposure to contend with. Usually this "might" help a little with exchange rate variables. I had it for the grandkids long term view but when this government was elected with an obvious remit for hard Brexit I swapped for Developed World exUK and am now about 8% ahead compared with having kept it. It depends on your outlook for the UK, if you think we will rebound from this level of debt quickly it may be worth sticking with it. If you think this governments' performance so far does not exactly exude competence, maybe time to change.
