Refurbished laptops source/supplier

  • Maybe a bit more. Are you claiming it's somehow more technologically than a PC/monitor combination? The fact is that the whole 'laptop industry' has been running as a cash cow for the producers at the consumer's expense for years, literally.
So, can't you find them for a "a bit more"? I bought one via eBay for £37.
  • Out of interest I searched for the price of the Windows 10 home operating system without any laptop. That being relevant to the cost of a second hand machine. After all the OS is just as important as the hardware.
Microsoft store sell it for £120.
Amazon Uk for £69 delivered by courier.
    And Lizengo £23
    Seems quite strange!
Microsoft control all licenses and I trust Amazon at least will be selling a genuine new Microsoft license  - no idea about Lizengo.
Do people pay Microsoft £120 for something they can buy for £69 or maybe even £23 or have I just completely mis-understood the Microsoft store web page?
Anyway if you get a second hand laptop with windows 10 OS installed for £50. The actual price of the laptop by itself would be £27 at most. Lucky you.

Try ebay for win 10 £2 from a store in india 5 star with over 8000 sales :)

or if you want to spend more ebay and find a windows 7 cd with the key, or a faulty laptop or pc with the windows 7 key on it
  • Argos have an eBay shop that used to do fantastic deals on refurb laptops. I bought mine about 6 years ago for something like £160 and it's still working great, and I bought a few for the charity I used to work for and never paid over £150. Every laptop I've bought from them has been effectively brand new, with no signs as to why it was sold as a refurb.

However ... the new demand for laptops with everyone remote-working has decimated the supply. They still have a few on offer, but they're nothing like the bargains they used to be, and when they come into stock they get snapped up really quickly (they had a few around the £350 mark last week that have all gone this morning).

Before lockdown refurbished business laptops really were cheap as chips. Now demand has shot up they're cheap as pommes de terre sautées.
During times of hardship people will move more towards buying used, in times of plenty they'd rather buy new.
I started a business in the 2008 recession refurbishing and selling ex-govt/corporate laptops, selling throughout the EU via Ebay and online and demand was strong, prices were good, much money was made. Closed it in 2013 as due to the increase in the economy demand was weak, there was no longer enough profit in it to make it worthwhile. Given I typically had about 2hrs in a laptop even without parts if there wasn't £30 profit in a unit it wasn't worth doing. Once it turned from the odd one or two being like that to a sizeable amount it was time to shut the doors. Shame as I had TSR status not just in the UK but EU wide too.
