 True. But it's still illegal to drive an "unroadworthy" car. A bald or "mot-failure" tyre would make the car "unroadworthy", and illegal to drive on the road irrespective of MOT status. Similar to if your car passes the MOT, then 6 months down the line the tyres have worn to below the legal minimum - it's got a valid MOT, but it's still not legal to be on the road.Grumpy_chap said:It is permitted to drive a car without MOT to a pre-booked MOT.

            They want to charge you circa £700 to replace pads , change a tyre and sort out the handbrake cable 🤣🤣🤣🤣
 Change the pads yourself (30 mins work around £50) get a mobile tyre fitter for your tyre (£40 to £100 depending on the tyre ) and while your at it look why your handbrake cable isn't working (free)
 In answer to your question yes you are being ripped off , take your business elsewhere next time0
