Help please! Wrong sort code used

Options
Hi I’m new here but hope someone can help. I made a payment to my Santander credit card on Saturday but managed to use the wrong sort code - apparently it’s an old one. The account number was correct and used my credit card number as reference. I’ve informed my branch of the mistake and they’ve started a recall process. Santander weren’t very helpful saying that the money may be lost for good. 😩. Is this the case? It was still a Santander sort code just an old one. Hope someone can give me some hope.

  • What is the sort code?
  • The money will not be lost for good.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

I'm sure Santander told you it was lost for good.....

If the sort code was wrong the transaction should have been rejected and not completed - or returned as unpaid.

I did exactly the same a few years ago, also with Santander. Right account number, but one digit wrong in the sort code (mis-heard over the phone). It took me nearly a year to get the money back. Apparently, the money had gone into an account they use for mortgage payments.

09-01-09. Correct code should have been 09-00-99

Don’t know why I’ve managed to quote you 3 times! It wasn’t wrong just an old code apparently - came up as an auto select when i was searching on my bank mobile app for Santander. I stupidly didn’t check it.

  • Thanks for all your comments. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed. The law changed regarding these kinds of errors apparently so that they have to be rectified within 20 days. Stupid silly mistake. What’s annoying is that it’s still a valid sort code but just an old one.

    Well both are Santander.
