0% transfer from ex wifes card?

Ive been asked by my ex wife if I can help her out by taking out a 0% transfer card and transferring her balance to help her out instead of me paying her child maintenance.
She cant get a card due to poor credit but I think I could. My question is it possible to get a card and then transfer the balance from  her card, which isnt in my name? I told her it isn't possible be she thinks it is.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Probably against the terms of most cards tbh and you would still be liable for the debt on the card.

Some lenders allow it some don’t.

But you will become fully 100% responsible and reliable for the debt.

Historically even some of those that said they didn’t wouldn’t stop such a transfer but are you sure she subsequently won’t say your not paying the support? Once the debt transfers it’s 100% yours.

Will paying this actually support you child/kids?

And if she say's you've stopped paying child maintenance, where does that leave you?
How long is it going to take to pay this debt back by not paying CM?

All I can see is she will simply run up the balance again and get in a even bigger mess.

NO! No no no no no no no!!!  Doesn't this ring any bells for you? You wrote :  "She can't get a card due to poor credit".

If she has poor credit, how does she intend to pay you back? Wake up and smell the coffee, please!

If you do it, you will regret it for a VERY long time. A credit card that's in YOUR name but you have absolutely NO control over it whatsoever?!  You shouldn't even be thinking about that, not even if it was for your wife.  I cannot believe that people are actually giving you details of banks that allow this to occur.

You should continue to pay regular child maintenance, which is a fixed sum - and keep your nose out of your ex's other financial matters.

I've never ever heard anything so absolutely ludicrous and foolish. And I speak as a divorced woman whose husband went off with someone else!  Just ..... NO!

I wonder if it is really the “ex” posting fishing for information...?
  • I didn't expect so many replies thanks for the links guys, so it looks like it might be possible. Of course I realise I would be liable for the debt. Thanks Malmonroe for the good intentions but life is never black and white, there is no need for me to go into detail here. The CSA are not involved we came to an agreement so I don't think she would complain to say I stopped.
