I'm going to New York 18-20 June and need hotel accommodation whilst there as relative who I had planned on staying with has had to cancel :mad:
Any recommendations for cheap but very nice hotels. I'm flying into JFK so probably wouldnt mind hotel at airport if decent.
Advice would be welcomed.

Cheap = Milford Plaza http://www.milfordplaza.com/
I dont think it is very nice, but it is in the heart of everything. We were going to stay there but it was sold out, but we went to look at it when we where there and it is just down a street from times square. Very close to broadway!
Alternativly you could try priceline. if you need more info about priceline then ask!

I stayed at the Portland Square Hotel (https://www.portlandsquarehotel.com) a couple of months ago in New York. It was fine in that it was fairly basic but very well situated (v. close to Times Square) and did everything I needed it to without being sparse. It was the cheapest place I could find at the time with a private bathroom!0

I would not advise staying near the airport - get into Manhattan if possible. It all depends on your tastes, but when in Manhattan, I would try and stay no further up than 14th Street to be near East Village, Greenwich, SoHo, Chinatown, Little Italy..... The subway is good (and cheap) to go up to Times Square, Central Park. ESB etc. NYC local government are pushing the Bronx just now (Zoo, Botanical Garden, Yankee's Stadium), but if you're only there a couple of days then it must be Manhattan. I've looked at a couple of hotels I know, but all booked up on your dates. Have a look here http://www.1800usahotels.com/nycvisit/nycvisit_do.html but remember - NYC hotels are usually not the cheapest in America! Good Luck.0

You can sometimes get a good deal by staying in the Wall Street/Financial District area over a weekend as the hotels there are generally full of business people Mon - Fri but quiet at weekends. If, as stinky101 suggests, you have a crack using Priceline you might just get yourself a real bargain.This space has been intentionally left blank0

I have been checking out a website called https://www.hotwire.com you put in the area dates etc and it comes up with really cheap options for a star rating and you pay in dollars. ( at least that is my understanding) I found it whilst checking out some hotel reviews on tripadvisor.com and a lot of americans seem to use it.0

I recently booked Best Western for someone, easy to do online and reasonably priced if you look at NY pricing. They also have free bus to their hotel from JFK

Hi Stinky
Can you give me some further info how priceline works and any tips?
Thanks in advance0 -
Do a search for Applecore hotels, I stayed in the Ramada because it was the best value i could find. It was very close to the Empire State Building and I was able to walk to Times Square no problem. Very good location.
