Hi,
I'm looking to get a phone but I'm a total technophobe and the phone I have now is only one step up from a carrier pigeon! It's an old nokia, no camera, internet etc.
I was looking online but I'm getting blinded by science.  I saw the Samsung A41 which seems a reasonable price range considering I probably would never know or use half the stuff on the more expensive ones.
Has anyone purchased the A41 and if so, were they pleased with it?
I will be paying outright for it and want a Sim Free phone as I was thinking of going with Smarty at £10 a month

You need to work out what you want to do with and what you want to get out of your phone.
If you just want something to literally call and text once in a blue moon, its pointless getting one that sings, dances and does the dishes, you might as well just get a newer "dumb" phone.  Even some "dumb" phones have cameras on them now, nothing fantastic quality wise but fine to send off to the insurance company if somebody prangs you.

If your not going to use half of the features why pay a lot of money for them?  Its not their cheapest phone
    by a big margin.

No internet on your phone?  The phone I had in 2004 had internet (of sorts  WAP)

A21 is almost half the price.

  • As I say my phone is one step up from a carrier pigeon!  I really want to get a better one with some bells and whistles on as I'm regressing and technology is just passing me by.  If I continue like this I'll end up with 2 empty bean cans and a piece of string!

Has anyone got a Samsung A41 and what do they think of it.

Also has anyone signed up with 'Smarty'?

  • A41 is a good Samsung phone for the price, not the best phone in that price range by a long shot and
there are plenty of other phones that offer way more for your money, or very similar for a lot less.

Why the A41 and not the A21?   Just curious why the A41.

You will probably find any new phone a significant advance on what you have now so as suggested an A21 or similar will be cheaper. The A40 (then the current model) was on my shortlist when buying a new phone at the start of the year. It seemed a decent phone but in the end went for an A50.

It was just from looking online and reading some reviews - then I saw on tv the other day that a lot of reviews aren't genuine for any product on the market and I just didn't know what to do.

  • I can't figure out this bloody website since they've changed it!  I'm trying to reply to 'forgotmyname' but getting nowhere.
Anyway, I was just checking reviews online.  You say there are better ones on the market, apart from the A21 did you have any in mind so I can have a look

Hundreds of phones available, but you don't say why the A41 and why not the A21. Why a Samsung?
A21 is cheaper, 32GB memory with an SD card slot if your taking a lot of photo's. 16MP main camera with
a 13MP selfie camera. Fingerprint sensor etc etc.. Whats missing?

I like Samsungs but many do not like their interface, many prefer the cleaner look of stock Android.

    Hi again,

there's something wrong with the site here, it's like there's 2 pages overlapping each other making it hard for me to read your comment.  From what I can make out you ask specifically why the A41.  Well it's just that I like Samsung (don't know if that means they are brilliant for phones).  The reason I mention the A41 is because I thought it was a fairly good price - not the cheap end of the range nor the really expensive end of the range.

I read some reviews on carphone warehouse site stating that the A21 had quite a few flaws and was cheap looking. one stated that it had poor resolution and problems with wifi etc. I probably wouldn't even notice as I've not had that type of phone and only had a phone that dialed and texted. Admittedly there were some good comments too. I'm just getting bogged down with all the info.  So I thought that the A41 was maybe a better option.  I realize I'm only going by what I've read and was hoping that someone who's had either of the 2 phones mentioned may have seen my post and commented on their experience.

I use the library computers and we are only allowed 45 minutes a day at the moment due to covid restrictions, so it means I never really have much time to read and digest all the info.

  • Stick a plastic back on a phone and they say its cheap, my phone has glass front and rear. Rear glass was a waste
because the first thing i did was attach a screen protector and stick it in a case.  One of my best phones was a Galaxy S2
cheap flimsy plastic back. Still used to this day for monitoring Arduino projects. Although it needs to retire soon with
newer Bluetooth versions being required in my projects.

Read enough forums every phone out there has a long list of major problems. But compare those to the millions sold.
Years ago i had a Nokia 6233 guy in the shop said they had loads of them back faulty. Mine worked fine for years, not
    a single problem.

270 pixels per inch for the A21,  431 for the A41 but my old S6 released in 2005 has 577 pixels per inch.
So yes its a lower spec but almost double the price better?  Doubtful.

A21 and the A41 both have plastic backs and plastic frames, 5 year old phone had a metal frame.

Both can record 1080P video at 30fps.      Bigger battery in the A21, bigger screen.
