It’s a great account to follow from someone also on a debt free journey.A very good point.

I can walk but not a great runner although my current gym programme includes interval training with running and I am enjoying that so you never know I might get into it. After I have done the SW Coast path I want to do the Macmillan mighty hike and I think that is about 26 miles too and raises money for charity. Walking not running though LOL.

@ryanm8655 haha you’re not the only one craving booze and junk food at the moment. Really careful not to drink when I’m massively craving it for the wrong reasons too many years seeing alcoholics queuing for the pub opening. Did have a maccys for lunch massive disappointment and regret, you’re not missing anything haha. What the wife doesn’t know can’t harm her though she is the reason I’m not fat tbf.
Running the marathon is not going to happen. Nice idea but I’ve not got the commitment for training. I’ve probably given the impression I’m a bit fitter than I actually am - can run a 5km but that’s about it tbh. Gym / running when I bother I enjoy it once I get started but not passionate about it.
@warby68 I realise enforced payment of debt isn’t going to change my mindset but it is what it is right now. Also know plenty of car guys who don’t spend six figures on them - excuse to spend for me probably. I do detach myself from family time too much tbf. Often a lot easier to send her to her mum’s.
@clairebeth haha I wish she won’t even sleep in the same room now.
People living planet friendly lives instagram ... you’ve took it one too far there lol. Tbh been avoiding it altogether and not missed it one bit did read that post though @purplehippo276 it definitely applies but I don’t really get how my mindset can fully change. Tbh I think if I had no drive to buy stuff, I just wouldn’t care about anything / my business life etc etc no point in holding property for the sake of it.
Probably going to get some flack for this but have spent a bit of time seeing if there’s any projects about between jobs nothing I’m interested in from the glance but might put a few phone calls in get a cheapo on a bridge and that’s another single let - must be more productive than configuring AMs. Mortgage broker reckons there’s still the odd 80%LTV out there so can get there on deposit through business.
@RelievedSheff / @enthusiasticsaver yes the ‘month’ ends 25th so more than 7 days in. Entertainment is now £125 because wife spent £15 today on something for son and groceries are down to £240.

Not quite so bad then but still 18 days to go. At current spend rates you will still be over budget!

@alt80
I actually think a business project would be good for you - you know the game well enough not to lose money on a property punt whereas new cars intrinsically lose money just by existing. I suggested it a few posts back although slightly different angle.
Something to fire you up in a different direction.

Only spending money you have already earned and not always spending right now but aiming towards what you want to be able to buy in the future. Buy things that don't depreciate or have huge upkeep bills so you can sell them without a stupid loss, search out the best value rather than the first place you see anything, buy things you will actually use until they wear out and not so many duplicates they won't get much used, occasionally just buy cheap things - maybe a bunch of flowers rather than a bag.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Hey @alt80 Just hold your wife's hand. Kiss her and your son. Tell them that they mean everything, and cuddle them.
No one cares more for you than them.
You are a lucky man.3 -
@mamamu I missed your post earlier - the Santiago de Compostela walk sounds really good distances in Spanish heat sound a little daunting but I think I’d be ok. I used to regularly go to Greece - mainland and island hopping similar don’t take a lot of stuff very relaxing, phones off most of the time, no stress. Some parts are very remote, wife always used to roll her eyes when I rang my parents to translate lol. I’d really like to go to Greece next year if we can my parents would love to see son again and just the cost of flight / ferry if we just went to see my parents.
@RelievedSheff we do have all groceries in for 7-10 days tbf so only one more food shop. Entertainment counts my Saturday spends. I’ve told wife we’re spending no more than £50 this weekend - weather looks ok so run out to a great place for a long dog walk, coffee lunch and film afternoon if wife doesn’t go to in-laws and Sunday going to see my sister, she lives a good 1.5hours away and is cooking so free apart from petrol and the tank is full. Should easily be within budget.
@warby68 wasn’t thinking of you when I said I’ll probably get some flack in fact it was your post that got me looking so thanks. New cars are a terrible buy in lots of ways, really nice to have but never bought with the head.
@clairebeth yes seriously. She’ll share my room when I stop owning money to banks so she says probably will be 89 then lol. Don’t need marriage counselling.
@theoretica read your post and wished I could be in that position just chilled about saving towards goals rather than needing the stuff now. Thought a few times maybe we could hand the BMW back get a car through the business to replace it if picked carefully and save towards the XJS/ DB7/ other older GT but I just can’t see finding £20k spare in any reasonable timeframe because saving towards that would be ridiculous rather than getting rid of these cards but I can see a way to finance it and be able to pay the cards down. Catch 22. I’m basically trapped in a cycle of never ending finance deals.
