I have just ad a thought as you spend a fair bit on line do you go through Quidco or Top Cashback. You can often get good amounts of cashback on things including changing utility companies etc. I know at your earning level the aamounts are fairly small but you know the saying about small corns growing to mighty oaks.

Not feeling too great this morning no idea why I thought drinking so much yesterday when I’ve got a load of work today was a good idea. Think I need to stop it for a bit lol. Drinks were in stock so nothing spent but £90 to replace. Couple of weeks ago I’d feel that was nothing today I think it’s probably too much to be in the questionable position of being somewhat hungover on a school day especially being the one in charge of the kids.

Anyway onwards and upwards checked the yolt didn’t spend any money last night... wouldn’t be the first time I’ve committed myself to spending too much haha. Win win there. 👍

Also seriously considering selling a few things I’d not really thought about if wife and can raise £10-15k from selling stuff we’re not too bothered about that would be a great help.

I only really count the credit cards as debt not the cars / home / property but I suppose it is debt really I got into that mindset to justify a lot of things to myself especially cars.

@ladyholly my waiting online basket some boots / winter scarf so doubt any cash back. Knew I said I wouldn’t be buying anything like this for myself and don’t really need the scarf but only £38. Boots are £375 but got an old pair which have lasted well over 5 years would still be going strong if my golden retriever hadn’t got hold of them can still wear but a bit dog eared now just trying to work out if I need to buy this stuff right now before actually purchasing.

How about only buy them if you commit to selling some other items like the watches you don’t wear? Set yourself a challenge to achieve in order to earn them.

If it makes you feel any better I feel hungover and have only just crawled out of bed and I was in bed at 21.45...

  •  I like the challenge thing. I set myself a rule which helped me make headway with debt and replaced instant gratification with delayed gratification (which I actually greatly prefer, no impulse buying of anything!). Want a new thing? Sell or declutter ten things first (I've lightened up on myself and now it's down to five). I also have a list of wants/needs that is in priority order with planned purchase dates. We did the same with holidays as we didn't want to abandon the idea - they seem frivolous when you have a tonne of debt but also can be so good for mental health. The compromise was to set a target, save and sell, and book only when we had enough. I'd book with free cancellation so that if the target wasn't met, nothing was lost and we could downgrade the break to something less ambitious.

Thanks re the challenge definitely something for me to think about. I have a pair of brown boots the same but the wrecked ones are black and I usually wear them seems a bit frivolous at the moment - can’t believe I’m even writing this over a pair of boots and they are sat in my basket not even checked out what has the world come to?! Read this back to myself - sounds such first world problems lol some dude in news app this morning 33 recovering from a brain tumour, life never be the same again for him, makes you realise a bit of debt isn’t a massive deal really. Only money.

Did pass Barbour store on my travels got the scarf £23 (bargain) and same as the other one so very happy with that. Took the decision I didn’t need anything fancy so a lot less spent than usual; quality of their stuff is usually decent enough so will do. Don’t think anymore clothes for me to buy over winter. Working coffee lunch on expenses so doing well today.

Nice day here wife was meant to be meeting her mate for coffee but F-type broken again - worse car I’ve ever owned for reliability so it’s at Jaguar again. When it’s being like this I’m almost glad it’s going tbh.

@ryanm8655 Yeah going to get rid of the 2 watches tbf. Can get something else another time better off with the money right now.

lol that’s what happens when your up at 5am.

@One-step-at-a-time thanks, definitely something for us to think about only thing is at some point you’re going to run out of things. I’ve said to wife no holidays isn’t realistic apart from the coming year - no point really with not knowing if you’re going or not. I found going on hol just after lockdown more stressful than just staying at home tbh.

Why not see what a cobbler can do for your boots?  Either to refurbish the pair you like, or make the brown ones black?
