Sadly, the days when Grumpy_chapess would roll up and enlarge my beast are long gone :(

This is the sort of thing that gets internet forums a bad name.
    Keep it up!

I do.  I do. But Grumpy_chapess is no longer as impressed as she once was.
  • If garage use whatever oil they have to service a car, the will quickly go out of business. Most mechanics take great pride in what they do, and using the correct oil grade and spec is fundamental to a correct service. It is true,
most garages have a barrell of 5w30 fully synth, that will cover 80percent of cars, and that is perfectly acceptable. If a VW or Audi comes in, for example, then any technician worth their salt knows to use 507.00, as this is vital to dpf protection over a long life service, afaik. As for supplying your own parts, most mechanics, garages accept this, provided you know what you are doing, it is all based on trust. Just use 1 garage where you can. Be loyal. Mechanics are good friends to have. It is all about trust.  Supplying your own oil should never be an issue for any garage, they will check the spec for you, drivers choice. But filters, leave they to the garage, they have preferences, stuff you wouldn't know about. Just my thoughts
