treeroy With that being said, I've no idea why you would buy oil and filters yourself, these are pretty generic things and its not like the garage is going to get that wrong...
Oh yes they are! There was someone on here recently whose car needed VW507.00 oil. The garages were totally committed to supplying oil that was not VW507.00. garages are like"Big tub in corner is oil for all cars". Trying to convince them that some cars need specific oil is like banging your head against a brick wall.

Considering how much knock-off junk is available on ebay, I'm not surprised garages are reluctant to fit customer parts.

Quite apart from the 25% markup they'd be losing.

Not at the main dealers like Landrover, Merc, Porsche or even VW for that matter.
  • Garages make a huge profit on the wholesale price they pay for oil and the retail price they charge the customer, so would not be happy if you supplied your own oil. Much like restaurants charging corkage if you bring your own wine.

Never ceases to amaze me this, I never go to a restaurant and take my own food, I never go to a football match and expect them to play with my ball.

Indeed, my VW ship does not or didn't supply the right oil , even though the invoice shows 6*1L edge, you soon noticed whe the exhaust pipes were well sooted.

Surely it would be an obstetrician that charged for labour?
