Unless you're going to abuse the ability to obtain free clubcard points, it's a rubbish account.
Faster payments take ages (or not at all at weekends)
    Customer services are poor.
App doesnt work on android 5 (pet hate, and environmently unfriendly)

Faster payments from my Tesco accounts take about an hour and the app works perfectly on newer android versions. Android 5 is ancient.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

An hour is ages, when the main banks is instant. 4 or 5 year old phones will have android 5, so not that old. It pushes people to buy new phones when they don't want to or otherwise have to.

Android 5 may be ancient, but my 8 year old Galaxy Note 3 works as well as it did in 2012 when I bought it.

This is a Money Saving site.  It is not economical or environmentally friendly to throw away (or recycle) a working phone.

The banks should be supporting older OSs.

I can still run apps from Lloyds, Halifax, Santander, TSB, Nationwide, Virgin Money, Curve, Monzo, Revolut, and Google Pay on Android 5, so why not Tesco?

Luckily, Yolt works on Android 5 and allows me to check my Tesco and Amex transactions and balances.

Lloyds and Halifax warn me that a newer app is available, but still allow me to use the old one.

The debit card is useful for getting double points in Tesco and at Tesco petrol stations.

The ability to set up multiple future payments to the same payee is also useful, and not offered by most banks.

Apart from that, it doesn't have much to offer anymore.

I agree that faster payments are slow, although some institutions are much slower. Post Office, NS&I, Yorkshire BS for example are all next day.

It may not be economical or environmentally friendly but, when I'm using my banking apps, security is top of my requirements. Banks have nothing to do with supporting older operating systems, if the security is not up to scratch, and the providers want you to buy a shiny new phone, then the banks won't take the chance.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Isn't the fault with your phone manufacturer as they have (apparently) not provided updates to keep your phones operating system and security current?
I think they are responsible for your problem, not Tesco.

I don't see a major advantage in the double clubcard points on small spends, though every little helps. I will retain the account with a zero balance but use for significant spend, such as isa and pension payments, or maybe a new car, as that can generate enough for a couple of free meals or a hotel stay on it's own.

It's fairly obvious that are going to close or sell off their current account portfolio.
