Your next car, will it be electric?

Looking at what was around the next couple of years, we have not seen a car we like in the all electric guise. So will stick with our petrol and diesels and we are doing our bit for the country as our cars are quiet new and newer engines though out less harmful gasses. However, should an electric car come along, we may try it.Scrapit said:
Nope, never thought of anything other than ICE. Diesel suits my needs best. Ev cannot match it.sweetsand said:For the first time we are considering an electric car. Never been in one or a hybred for that matter. A bit off putting as the closest we have been to an electric car is the bumping cars years ago, or the underground so I guess its a bit like that, ie fast from 0 to ?? but then the power zaps out quickly. If one is to trust media reports the batteries are getting better and retain charges for longer and quicker to charge.
TBH, pollution etc when buying a car never bothered us as we just wanted nice big, fast cars but older now, we do think about our grandchildren having seen the pollution in london on a hot day from the heights of Royal Greenwich park.
Having said the above, my OH may not be ready to pay the extra for the next Range Rover, S Class etc and in his view the eletric cars will get better and cheaper so a real possibility in 2/3 yrs time, but it could be in 2012 as never say never.
Have you thought of buying one or got one? IMO you need a drive to charge and feel vulnerable as charge goes out.
Those Tesla SUV's, saw one drive up in a Merc garage last year and I never knew the SUV had gull-winged doors, well I
saw
the back one oopen like that did not see the front open but it looked nice on the inside from a distance.
The government talking about putting an extra tax on diesel cars to help reduce the price of electric cars is good. If you can afford to buy any new car, for sure you can pay the 15% or so on top of that, IMHO.

I like the Taycan and spec'd one up £157K, however the entry to my R.O.W. is just too narrow, just for fun I was looking at the i3 just for commute and tootling to the shops and back, use the petrol for long drives, i3s are going for little over £10k now, 100 mile range too.sweetsand said:

Thanks but just had a look at the car, it just looks wrong. We have a 911, people still gloat over it when my OH parks it up outside a pub/cafe. Years ago we did consider the panamara or something like that that is another with 4 doors but imo looks better than this Tycan.DUTR said:

Someone we know has the larger salon version of those eletric slaoon car, forget the name - they brag on about the "accelaration" but my OH picked them up on it that full throttle 0 to 60 etc can only be done a couple of times and then you have to wait for the battery to return to the full power again.
It looks as though we will be stuck with our diesel and petrol cars but may replace the golf R type for an electric hatch for use locally as we do feel guilty about the emissions, safer planet, etc.0 -
I will stick with my diesel thanks
£20 “tax”
500+ mile range
5 min to refill
plenty of filling stations
zero range anxiety
and 10-30k cheaper the equiv electric offering
would I consider one though - well yes,but the price needs to come down a lot and there needs to be a model that I actually like. Not a fan for all these silly twee or futuristic looking things - especially the interior.
nothing wrong with a dials and knobs and a “proper” speedo - I dont want some silly digital display/interface3 -
Until they change the road tax regime and road tolls. The gov is short of money and they will do anything to get more from car drivers. in the press the other day talk about extra tax on diesel cars to fund elec cars. Then every so often you get chatter for higher road taxes for older cars and toll charges.ToxicWomble said:I will stick with my diesel thanks

Some councils are, or thinking about making diesel drivers more I think.0 -
Anyone keeping a track on car types?2

The higher end cars even the non eltric ones have digital read ours as on some of our cars and the S Class, you get realtitic looking dials. Alternatively, if you like a car, an eltric one and want one with "dials" you could commission one.ToxicWomble said:I will stick with my diesel thanks
