Is there the opportunity to defer until next year to allow you time to find a job and save money?
Why is everyone so keen for me to defer to next year? How can you guarantee I find a job before the next academic year plus to save money before then? What about the funds I've saved already??! I'll have to use that when looking for a job, if I haven't found a job in 6 months, I'll have to use 6 months worth of my funds, which means I've got to save a further 6 months of funds on top of 3 months.
    Does that make sense?
Is there no other funding available then if all the advice I am getting is defer to next year?
It'll just mean I'll have to cut back on childcare costs which means putting my kids in less time at their childcare setting.

Unfortunately in life you cannot have everything in life sometimes. Compromises need to be made.

Cheers, but your logic isn't the advice I am going to take.
I have made plenty of compromises, like I've said multiple times, this isn't a question of when to do it, it's about if you know of any postgraduate funding.
Please only comment on postgraduate funding, and nothing about what compromises I need to take, you don't know me personally.

Could your partner take out a loan? Not sure if Banks consider further education as a viable lending reason, but might be an option to investigate. I have done Post-graduate distance learning study and not aware of any loans that would be viable, but I was working full time, so didn't investigate as presumed I wouldn't be eligible.
  • If you're looking for an answer to one question and are not open to suggestions, then I guess the answer is: No, no one is aware of any available funding.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

@Dr_Crypto No, part time working won't be feasible. :(
Also the Postgraduate Master's Loan is still available for this academic year. But the total amount won't see me through to the end of the year.

@SweetPotatoPie I'm doing a MSc in Statistics, so unlikely to carry out another route.

    Thanks both for replying 👍
What type of statistics are you hoping to do career wise?

I'm an applied medical statistician and don't have a MSc and did a funded PhD. There maybe other options that don't involve additional borrowing.
I'm looking into Risk for the type of Statistics I want to explore further into.

What other options are you recommending that doesn't involve borrowing? I'll be happy to look into.
    Thanks.
So I worked as a research assistant doing work similar to what I would have done as part of a MSc. There was no need for me to do a MSc as I already acquired the skills.

Are there any lower positions you can do to 'train on the job' as it were?

Are you looking to work in the insurance sector?

There is virtually no funding for Masters courses in the UK. Your best bet is to contact your tutor: universities generally have a hardship fund that can be used to give a little help. There may also be opportunities for casual work within your department (at one time I arranged to do a Masters and the department promised me enough casual work to pay the tuition fee).

    Good advice here.

OP you are going to have to choose and I feel your best option is to defer and save up what you need unless your partner can take out a loan as suggested.

That sounds good, I've looked for research assistant jobs too so I could do my MSc but there wasn't anything available to me, or within a distant for me to travel.

Not necessarily looking into insurance but that's an option.

Thank you for this advice, I'll contact the university and see if there is any casual work I can do as well as hardship fund.

    Thank you for replying.
