there is that old trick if you can't decide - toss a coin - heads job A, tails job B.  when you see the result if you are happy/relieved go for it, if you are disappointed then go for the other.

exciting is good for the long term (if it lasts), I think it depends on how much of a buffer you have.  one of the things that annoys me is how having a wealthy background allows you to take a lot more risks which opens opportunities that aren't really there if you have a family / mortgage and cats to support.

I'm at the end of a relatively steady job in a medium/large sized firm (which has had its moments and started small back in the day) but when I see people from some of the start ups I am a little jealous at their freedom and excitement, but then at times like this glad to be part of something solid, and robust.  Do you want boom (at the risk of bust) or steady (at the risk of boredom).    Whilst the latter did chafe from time to time, you can make your own fun at work and outside work, and it does sound like the RMF know how to party :sunglasses:

  • Went for the less exciting but infinitely more stable role, really pleased and looking forward to getting started. Got to serve my notice period and boss is being a bit funny about it but he's gonna have to get over it!

Going to celebrate with a takeaway and some bubbles! Will see what there is in the fridge, have way too much wine as I just can't say no to the wine club lol.

Then onto a weekend fun of rugby! Not sure abut watching the whole 6 Nations tournament at home, we would normally go to at least 1 game and watch most of the others in the pub! But we've got some good game food and snacks in and plenty of beers so will make a party of it at home!

  • Good weekend with the rugby (even if we lost!). Finished all that we can on the decorating front now, just waiting for furniture to arrive. Then going to think about the next project to do, we are both really struggling this lock down with the dark cold days and having a project just seems to keep us going. Its a toss up between decorating the next room or some crafting. Think might go for the crafting and save next decorating project for Easter, give me a break from the paint brushes lol.

Got some more good exercise done over the weekend so hoping to keep that up the next few weeks while I work my notice and just do 9-5 instead of the crazy amount I was doing...feels a bit lazy logging off at 5 when its absolutely not 😆

  • Good weekend had here, enjoyed the rugby (not just the win, but the fact they played a bit better!). Had a few yummy meals over the weekend, a nice Valentines meal Sat (ham hock terrine, beef Wellington and lemon tart, bought from a fave local restaurant as a Valentines package that you then cooked at home!). We normally don't bother going out on Valentines as its never an evening I enjoy, but wanted to support the restaurant so they can keep in business for when things open up. Followed by a good roast dinner on Sun, chicken, roasties and the trimmings followed by brownies, that was all supermarket though so was cheaper! Drank far too much at the weekend, but that all came from the plentiful supplies at home....for some reason, people always give us booze as presents?!

So need to get running again this week to burn some of that off haha! Didn't run at all last week, was so icy here and I just wasn't confident with it. Got plans for two 5ks runs during the week (Tues and Thurs) and then a 10kms run at the weekend....saying the day helps me stick to it a lot more! I need the accountability lol 😆

  • This week has been a struggle, given I'm leaving in a few weeks and how badly the company has treated me (and my team), I just have so little motivation. Tough week!

But, its the weekend now, yay! And its payday next week yay!

At payday I will have built my £7k being a 3 month emergency fund which is great. Plan then was to start overpaying the mortgage. But I've had a re-think and am instead planning on setting the money aside into Premium Bonds and holding onto the cash until a later date. The money will then be available for a lump sum repayment or to help with re-mortgaging. I've worked out that the planned OPs for the next 2 years will save about £500 in interest, but if the money is in PBs I could win more than that. Equally I could win nothing, but think its worth the "risk" for £500 of interest saved. The money will be set aside solely for the purpose of future mortgage OPs and I am very disciplined so I know I won't touch it for anything else. So thats the plan. Will do this for first few months and the re-assess the situation!

Have a great weekend all x

Good plan - I am looking forward to building up some PBs again, but for now its just so much more tax efficient to dump money into my pension - one of the benefits of being older.  Discipline is good - wish I had more of it, but am getting there
