New Meter Installed but also a mysterious box too. What is it?

It has something to do with my radiators and hot tap boiler which is electronic why does it need its own box?
Is it smart does it have its own signal like the smart meter?

Most likely a contactor. Does it have a thin cable and 2 thick brown cable connected?

Not a  modem  - others have responded - its probably a contactor associated with the off peak - but a photo would help

It's a switch to switch on/off the heavy currents of the offpeak heater and immersion heater installation.

Just going to use my photo here. As others have said, it controls your off-peak water and heating.
