Hi, I am looking for some advice. I am planning a trip for next year (as in September/October 2021). Obviously we all hope travel restrictions aren’t in place then but who knows at this point! Would it be too risky to book the trip a year in advance for a country that is currently a no go zone, as in the advice is that the country is not currently letting in commercial flights etc. and it is not exempt from ‘all but essential travel’? Thanks for any advice anyone can give!

  • Your guess it as good as mine, I’d like to book a trip for the back end of next year, but likely if I do it’ll be last minute.

Check your travel insurance options, some policies have ...

    Which country?
Risks are aplenty. The further.ahead.you.look the more uncertain things are.
I usually book at Christmas time for the.following September but have decided not to this year.

My experience has been coloured because I got stranded in March and still haven't got all my money back. Maybe if that hadn't happened I wouldn't be.so reluctant.
  • I've booked something for the end of 2021 and paid a small deposit - the balance not due until September next year but I read the terms and conditions very, very carefully (I can change the dates or destination if needs be). I accept it's still a risk no matter what, but the deal was good and frankly I just wanted something to look forward to. If it all goes t*** up so be it. Maybe ask yourself why you want to book now, what are the advantages/disadvantages in waiting, and how would you react if something went wrong. Then make your decision based on the answers to those questions.

Hi just been looking into this issue of travel next year and some points in this thread might prove useful for folk.
Ultimately Insurance and when you buy it might be key as to what is and is not covered...

You might get a cheap deal by booking now but then it might not go ahead.

Personally I'd say it would be best to plan a few different options and then trying to get a good deal on one of them at some point next year.  If you've done some planning already it means you can book more last minute and not feel unprepared.

I think this is the problem, currently the government advice is don’t travel so would that mean I couldn’t get travel insurance for that far in advance that actually covered me?

If you can get free cancellation, covid cover or refunds as some companies are doing, then go for it, otherwise I personally wouldn't.
