New windows 10 or 20 year guarantee, £5500 or £6500?

I am getting quotes for new double glazed windows and most companies have a 10 year guarantee but one of the local companies, worker owned, is giving a 20 year guarantee but their quote is about £1000 more than the companies that are giving only a 10 year guarantee.
Which would you pick, 20 year guarantee for £1000 more or 10 year guarantee for £1000 less?

Do you know the profile . AFAIK there isn't a profile offing 20yrs . absolutely sure there wont be a double glazing company offering 20 on the glass and defiantly sure the mechanics (handles . hinges . locking systems )will not have a manufactures 20 on them , They maybe doing this off their own backs or check what is involved in the 20yr . Would be good to keep me upto date on this . Thanks

The chances of something going wrong are very slim. Windows and doors have few moving parts and even those are generic parts which you can get from Screwfix for about £10. I'd bet they would be classed as wear and tear items anyway.
If there is a manufacturing defect it will likely be found within a couple of years when they have experienced a few temperature cycles (hot summers and cold winters expand and contract them causing stress on the frame) if it hasn't broken after that it probably won't.
Personally i wouldn't even be paying £1 extra for an additional warranty over and above 10 years1 -

100% agree . Plus ask anyone trying to chase up guarantees from companies that have gone to the wall . everything else is covered apart from what you need .0 -

Shaun I'm happy to be told differently . Theyre doing this off their own back . Probably going off the assumption that units normally fail within the time frame of what guarantee they get or not at all . If a dg unit is glazed properly and the drainage are clear there is no real reason not to get a full decent life from a sealed unit . C2C are a reputable firm with time served glaziers . They get their glass from the same place I do (Wirral) with a max 10yr cover ( soft spacer in Upvc or Alli ) 5 in timber .

Not sure whether I should start a new post but I have a similar query. Having all our windows replaced and we're being offered a 25 year guarantee, which doesn't seem likely because I know the manufacturers don't offer anything like that. There's also nothing on the firm's website (https://cgsglazing.co.uk/) about a guarantee which makes me even more skeptical as you'd think it would be a selling point.
How would you hold a company to a guarantee like that? I'd assume it should be in the contract we sign?0 -
Normally it would need to be an independent insurance backed guarantee . But then will that insurance company be around in 25 years ...0

The guarantee may not cover as much as you think (sealed units, hinges, and locks are often limited).
