Home Working - Bills

This is the 1st day working from home that I'm feeling the need to start putting the heating on - obviously this is going to mount up working from home throughout winter! Does anyone know whether these increased costs can be claimed for, as I can envisage my bill being significantly more. Either that or I live in lots of layers over winter........eek!

How much are you saving on not commuting, not going in Costa every day etc etc.....?0

You can't really claim the bills, but there is a tax allowance that can be claimed.
Also, you may be saving in other ways.0 -
A tax allowance worth £1.20 a week to a basic tax payer, lest we forget.Grumpy_chap said:You can't really claim the bills, but there is a tax allowance that can be claimed.

Rather than heat a whole room or house could you work with a heated blanket around you?0

My room "self heats" from my PC - rarely even need to wear socks - nice steady 23-26 degrees0

I'm sure I am incurring a few extra costs by working from home, but I'm saving much more in commuting etc. Also, considering how many people are in much worse situations with losing jobs, I'd feel a bit bad about going cap in hand to my boss and asking him to pay for my heating.

More so, if there is any risk in the workplace around job security, a request to pay for heating could put the requestor to the front of the queue.mr_stripey said:I'd feel a bit bad about going cap in hand to my boss and asking him to pay for my heating.1 -
Dont forget to cover working from home on your insurance . Especially if equipment being used has a high value .

Quite big - primary use is gaming (when not working) so it produces quite a bit of heat.mobilejo said:

The case is 21" x 21" x 10"
as others - I save more on commuting costs and time than i spend on extra utilities, so i really dont bother over £1.20 a week0
