Did they dismantle & reassemble wardrobe.  Also what about TV that is hung on wall?

This has been extremely helpful, thank you all!

Might I ask how much each of you paid, and the size of your moves?
A grand for everything. Moved maybe 40 miles away. Nov 2017.

3 bed to another 3 bed. No white goods or wardrobes. 3 sofas. 2 double beds. Table & chairs. Lots and lots of 'stuff' including loads of books, kitchen stuff, and the contents of a few wardrobes/drawers.

Do they actually pack up every single tiny thing that you own for you, or is it a bit like hiring a cleaner and doing a tidy up of all your clutter before they arrive, so that they can do a proper job?
Why on earth would you tidy up before your cleaner comes round? Surely that's what you are paying them for?

You’re paying them to clean, not tidy. If there’s clutter everywhere they won’t be able to get to the bits that need cleaning! I suppose you could get a cleaner to tidy up for you as well, but it would greatly increase the amount of time they take and therefore charge.

It's the one thing I don't use..I love packing and decluttering
  • The vendors of the house we were buying used Pickfords packing service. It was a nightmare from our perspective. By the time they had finished packing it was 4PM and our removals had to draft extra help in. If we had gone past 6pm there would have been an overtime charge which I would have had to try and pass on to the vendors due to their delays. Monies had exchanged by 13:00 but Pickfords were only 50% by then.

Any nightmare stories of broken / damaged items that the packing company refused to be liable for?

I  have had a full packing service when relocating to and from overseas as the customs rules are so complex. The guys turned up with a 2m roll of bubble wrap, i looked like a roll of carpet! They also used far more than I would have done. Once you factor in the cost of buying  boxes, bubble wrap etc it is not that much extra

They will come round to assess what you have and provide a quote. They will look at large furniture that may need disassembling and factor it in. You will be surprised at how they can move very large items in tact. They obviously will try and dismantle wooden furniture (when needed) but you will probably need to sign a waiver because flat pack stuff doesn’t always come apart nicely. Suspect they would take a wall mounted TV down for you if asked.

Large companies have a list of services so you can pick and choose. Last move I did everything was in storage so already packed. I  specified reassambly of the adisassembled furniture. If you want you can pay for furniture assembly but not packing
