Full packing service?

What exactly is it, and is it worth it?
It seems to be established that many people would rather pay for a professional removals company, rather than do a DIY job. But what level of service would you be buying? A few blokes with a bigger van than you can drive, and who know how to tessellate things into it? A service where you get packing materials supplied, and you pack up your own boxes for collection? Or a full packing service, where there’s nothing for you to do but sit back and relax?
But...is that what a full packing service is? Has anyone used one and could shed some light on the process? Do they actually pack up every single tiny thing that you own for you, or is it a bit like hiring a cleaner and doing a tidy up of all your clutter before they arrive, so that they can do a proper job? Is it actually all packed on the morning of your move, or a few days prior?
Our house has a lot of tiny little things and bits, and the thought of asking someone else to pack up all the junk that’s in my art studio, or my knicker drawer, or my partner’s hoard of cables frankly fills me with dread. But at the same time, packing is a seemingly insurmountable undertaking. Thoughts?

You could pack anything you dont want anyone to pack yourself.
I suspect your able to state what you want packed.
Why not speak to some removal firms ?
Ask whats involved in the service you provide.4 -
I've had a full packing service and next time I move, I'll have one again. They arrive on the morning of the move and just get on with it. Make sure you've already packed and put in your car anything you don't want them to pack for you. You will already have had the company round for a quote, so they will have seen your junk and you can discuss with them at that stage if you don't want them to pack a particular room so they can factor that in with their quote. Highly recommend it.

It’s worth every penny. They will come day before and pack your house up. You don’t need to do anything other than load your car with anything you don’t want packed and kept to hand. They will work out what needs packing, what can go as is etc...often they will just lift draws out of units cover them and take them with all contents in. This is another advantage of a full packing service...you packing yourself might have to empty drawers but they know what’s what.2

Absolutely worth it. My lot came a day or two early to pack my books and papers, then did the rest on the day of the move. I packed a few breakable items of sentimental value plus the papers I was working on and transported them myself. As far as the contents of drawers were concerned, they wrapped the drawer unit as a whole and transported It as was.2

Do it, do it, do it. Its what money's for. Use this site for saving on anything else you do but not this. This is what you should spend the money you're saving on everywhere else. It will take so much weight off your mind and save you a lot of stress and you will not regret it.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker5

It’s worth every penny. Just do it, you won’t regret it at all.6

Its not even much more than the standard removal service either. I think we were quoted 700 to move and 900 for the full packing service, where they came and did most the day before. Each plate/mug was wrapped individually, they were so fast. Would have taken me forever.5

Either the day before the move, or the morning of the move depending on how much stuff you have, a team of guys will SWARM through your house packing EVERYTHING. You sit somewhere out of the way watching Netflix on your laptop and make them an occasional tea. If there are any, you know, personal items you don’t want them packing then stash them in your car for the day.Only thing they don’t normally do is empty lofts - in my experience they’ll ask you to have got everything down from the loft in advance. But I’m sure they’d do it for an extra charge if that was a problem. My last few moves have been out of 4-bed houses totally full of stuff. A professional team can pack that in 5-6 hours. Vs me and the hubby spending weeks of evenings/weekends at it and living in a mess for ages. No brainer.6

They'll even usually dismantle and reassemble beds.
Cannot say it enough times on here. Worth EVERY PENNY.
I've done it myself a few times. I remember totally underestimating and wrapping bits in the early hours, and still wrapping things when the removal blokes turned up the next morning. The stress was beyond words. Totally overwhelming. I now pay for the lot.
Also, don't underestimate the amount of boxes, tape, bubble wrap and sheets of paper you'll need. It costs a bloody fortune! Am sure I had over 100 boxes last move. They also bring enough cardboard wardrobes. I have a lot of clothes and stuff.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*8 -
This has been extremely helpful, thank you all!
Might I ask how much each of you paid, and the size of your moves?2021 Fashion on the Ration Challenge - 66/66 coupons remaining.0
