School chromebook contracts Scotland, possible Covid19 remote Learning ?

Options
We have been sent a letter by our local council in Scotland asking for our 9 year old to sign a chromebook contract as well as ourselves, whilst I am willing to sign, I do not see why my 9 year old has to sign?! They want us also to provide the case, unsure why this was not part of the procurement process? It’s good they’re moving forward but why on earth a 9 year old has to sign a contract ..... there will also be additional costs to charge; in light that many families are struggling. But mainly worried about responsibility when they won’t provide adequate protection, but we are responsible? ..... I guess this is the trade off, have any other families encountered this? I know they usually issue anyway in my area in P6-7, my son is p5. But they may also issue to P4...... maybe we’re just lucky to even have them? 🤔

  • They're asking that your child commits to take care of it, that's all.

If you think he can protect it properly without a case, then no need to buy one. However, it's probably worth the fiver to get one.
  • I got a cover for my chromebook from poundland, its just a neoprene sleeve that it slides into just gives it extra protection when its being bumped around in my bag.
As for the contract, I can't see that it will be binding in anyway, however see it more of a "contract" or "agreement" a child would make saying that they would do for example their homework at school or when I volunteered with a youth group (5/6 year olds) we had "Meeting Rules" which we spoke as a group and the little ones signed their name to take some personal ownership over it. If in doubt ask the council.
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada
